[Updated] Chi Magazine Publishes Pregnant Kate Bikini Shots from Mustique

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

I don't mean to sound like a spoiled and egocentric individual, but I am supremely bored by the indignant cries against the photos of the Middleton vacation this past week, which will surface any day now. The Middletons have been vacationing on Mustique the past seven years and we have had photos of one kind or another almost every year.  What makes anyone think, in the present economy, that lucrative snaps won't come to light this year? It is ludicrous to assume otherwise. Furthermore, the many people who are so indignant that these photos will be printed are the same people who drive up demand for them. If you follow Kate's public engagements you contribute to her celebrity and by direct effect, pap shots.

Darren McGrady, former chef to Queen Elizabeth II, has been tweeting today about this whole uproar and he kept it simple--as one must in 140 characters or less:

Lisa was also a voice of reason and reality:

In no way do I condone the nude photos of Kate that were sold. That should have been a judgement call first on the part of the photographer and then on the part of every decent publisher, not to allow such degrading photos to see publicity. The difference here is very stark to me, and I just don't have an overwhelming problem with it. I wrote this post in 2011, but I still believe everything I said in it. Although, I mention Mustique as a place the royals can find privacy, I do not believe it is a sacred space of freedom. If photographers get beach snaps, that's life. William is a multi-millionaire and can afford to pay for full and complete privacy when the spirit moves him.

I will share the Mustqiue photos here on this blog, as I have posted the many other holiday pictures in the past.

  1. Jane, I appreciate your honesty and lack of hypocrisy. All the other blogs post old vacation photos, is there a time limit? Everyone looks at them, why pretend they don't? Or that they can, but we cannot? Good on you.

  2. Well, you can only say don't show them if you actually don't search and look at them. Most everyone admits they do that. It's the life of a royal.

  5. We look at pictures of celebrities on vacations all the time. This is no different. They are on a public beach. They are trying to suppress the press which is wrong. They have a wonderful and rich life. They can live with someone taking pictures of them on a public beach now and again.

  6. I love W & K but they think of themselves more highly than they should. Do they actually expect to have any privacy!?!? If they do they are fooling themselves. The nude pics I disagree with because that was at the very least bad taste, but these pics are what you normally see with celebrities.

    1. Well, I think William needs to relax, absolutely. I imagine he is still stinging from the topless debacle, but this just isn't the same scenario. They shouldn't complain when we all saw it coming a mile away. I love them and think this should be laughed off. Not a big deal in the grand scheme. Plus, she isn't hugely pregnant, so... Thanks for stopping in and for commenting!

  7. I am completely with you on your views. To be honest, it's silly when bloggers or otherwise do not post the photos but mention the pics or give the link to the pictures instead: 99% of their readership will still go to see the pictures or just google "chi kate mustique" to see them. The effect is the same to Chi: that everyone is interested in w+k and will continue to try to get pictures. It's life. You are a royal and have other privileges that us mortals don't. As Lisa said, they need to calm down.

    1. Thank you for your encouragement! It is appreciated. I agree with you, people will find the pictures not matter what. My job as a blogger is to provide a place you can access as much royal info as conveniently as possible. I also think it is amusing that everyone will look at the photos, even those who claim they shouldn't be shared.

  8. Kate has been in the media's spotlight for what--8 or so years? She knows that no matter what she will get papped in these destinations. Ibiza? Papped. Mustique? Every single time. France? Skiing and on the balcony of the chateau. If she didn't want to be snapped, she shouldn't have let her guard down and been walking around without some type of covering like a sarong or a sheer top. Yes, she has the right to wear what she pleases, but when you know the entire world knows where you are and that this is could potentially be the FIFTH time since your marriage that you have had holiday pictures plastered all over the internet, maybe you need to do something different. (The five times were: The France balcony, the ski trip, Mustique 2012, Mustique 2013, and their honeymoon.) On their honeymoon, they had the whole island, and pictures still emerged. Maybe they need to ask HM to buy a private island. They were on a public beach, and I guarantee none of this would be said if a random tourist had taken a picture out of excitement and posted it on Instagram or Twitter. If William and Kate want that much privacy, maybe they should consider stepping down and becoming private citizens. Nobody is forcing them to do anything. SJP, William, and Kate can be as disappointed as they want. Some taxpayers are disappointed that they're spending $30k a week on a villa and that neither of them have done any engagements. In her case, she was sick, but where was William? Just my opinion. :)

    1. I think it is very important to remember that they go annually and that they are always photographed. Clearly, they love and enjoy Mustique enough to not care about the photos, because they would be fools to assume there would be no shots. I think they are smarter than that! They can get privacy in many others places not accessible to photographers or locals. I think they are great, looks like they had a great time and they should leave it there. Thanks for commenting! I love hearing everyone's thoughts!

    2. I am really looking forward to seeing a photo tour of the redone royal apartments in Kensington. I hope they do a on the telly tour. I think it would be a lovely thing to do and show how 'humble' their 6 room apartment is - keeping the needed security of course - but Kate with her art history background could give some of the history behind the pieces of art/furniture they used. It could be a wonderful tool to use to bring in good reviews. My thought was maybe they had to stay at their own villa due to it was best for Will's security detail (and certainly Catherine's security is gone up now that she is carrying the future monarch of England too). I could see where maybe now there is not enough security/room for the detail Wills needs in the villa the Middletons like to rent there on Mustique.

  10. Jane, I absolutely agree with you. Whilst I think it is rotten that William & Kate can't have a bit of privacy, unfortunately, it is inevitable and goes hand in hand with their celebrity and as you say, shots of them have been taken on every holiday they've had so it's no big surprise. They really have to learn to just turn a blid eye otherwise it's going to be life full of lawsuits for them. Annie, UK

    1. Hey Annie! I agree, it will get tedious for all if they continue to gripe over everything. Plus, when something really egregious happens, like the topless photos, I think it lends weight to their anger when they aren't always shouting foul! Thanks for stopping by and for commenting!!

  15. I am quite happy to see you posted the pictures. We are curious, so we should just admit it. After all, we are the force behind the paparazzi.

These pictures were in no way disrespectful. I think Amanda Platell hit the nail in her last article at the daily mail. William should stop being such a whiner. It's getting old.

They get a million perks, wealth and privileges... so they don't quite enjoy the privacy that we as the common folk. Get over it. I find it hard to cry my little heart out when they are so upset to see a picture of them in such gorgeous island. So Kate is spotted shopping, walking her dog and on holiday with her husband. I don't think she lives locked in a tower and we don't see her 365 days a year.

The paparazzi shouldn't invade their personal space or chase them in a dangerous manner, other than that I don't have a problem.

    1. I don't think Will will be getting over it any time soon - he is still got major baggage as we call it here in the US from his strong feelings of how his mom was hounded - and also how much he hated having his own photo taken other than when he was a very little boy and was a ham for the cameras. He was quite shy toward the press and he got all those yrs of agreed 'stand down' time when he was in his gap yr and in Univ. I agree - you put it really well - Will needs to stop whining. It's gotten very old. He could take some lessons from Prince R of Monaco. If they really wanted no photos they should never have gone on holiday with the Middletons - it was well publicized trip/destination. Maybe Wills needs to become a close friend of Richard Branson and borrow his exclusive and very private island...I think the house is almost finished on it's re-build from the fire now. Also, wherever they stayed in the Seychelles was very private. This place on Mustique always has photos of the rich and famous surfacing. And with today's cameras on everyone's phones, it's only going to get worse and not better. I am surprised no guests on the island photos have appeared.

  16. Thanks for posting these. I thought the whole outcry was really silly. The trip destination and dates were announced for a very long time before departing - it was a given there would be photos. If nothing else there would surface photos taken by other island vacationing guests who shared the beach and the surf off the beach. I thought the one on the sand of the 2 of them looks fab - I should look so good in a tiny bikini pregs or not! And the only thing that anyone might have found fault with was the reveal of how very curly/frizzy Kate's hair is...she needs to tame it to get her regular look but then also she has 'that' kind of hair that curls up with humidity - we clearly saw that on their So. Sea's trip last yr despite Kate had taken her own personal hair-dresser with her on that trip. But who cares? It was not like any cameras tried to shoot photos through the windows of their rented estate. I would be really surprised if the entire island compound run by the company that owns it does not have it all wired up for closed circuit surveillance photos just in case there was a robbery or some fowl play with any guests who stay there. But probably the D&D's security detail sat in charge of all CC TV riggs covering their rented house. I think the Middletons like to get into the photos when the opportunity arises. I was a bit surprised that Will and Kate popped the huge $ for their own villa vs. staying in one of the bungalows attached to the Middleton's villa...QEII has strongly told all her grands to watch out and not go on lavish vacas during these hard eco times. That was the only thing I thought might have been set up differently - but what do we know? It could have been a necessity they had their own separate villa for a best security set up. Not like Wills can stay anywhere.

I am sooo looking forward to seeing Kate's appearances - official and non here on out as she starts to really show more - Gads she is really flat still for her 2nd tri-mester. Everyone's different however, esp with the first baby.
