Weekend Update: Wills Plays Polo While Pips Attends a Wedding

Saturday, July 13, 2013

Prince William played his polo game today against Prince Harry. His team may have lost to Harry’s team, but he won his bet that the baby wouldn’t interrupt play. Still no Baby Cambridge.

The last of the Coronation year festivities is underway and the Middletons were at the Coronation Festival.  They made an appearance Friday in the royal box all looking great as usual. Pippa has had the occasional fashion faux pas but this time she did quite well to my mind.  I also love that Pippa seems very good at keeping a perfect smile on her face most of the time.  That is harder than it appears.

Today, though, Pippa has made it from England over to Austria to attend a wedding:

I am looking forward to more photos, but I think this looks great! She has hit the right note. Nothing too exciting, because we all know that has backfired before, but plenty of summer color. The sheath dress with the jacket on top is just great. She has worn this hat before and I still approve. I am not in love, but I like it.

The word is that Kate is with her parents in Bucklebury, Berkshire this weekend.  Reports say that protection cars are parked outside her parents' home keeping watch over the pregnant Duchess. William is scheduled to play another polo game on Sunday.

Oh, and in not very related news:

And we wait...

  1. Thanks Jane great post. Pippa dress this time really looked lovely. But one thing I do not get there was a report Kate was feeling so well she considered attending the festivities on Friday which she didn't. And now it turns out she could travel to her family. Now what she can or can't do things? Similar to winter no engagement but travels on a holiday later. Her pr. People could do better I think. Sorry for being critical but here you listen and we can agree or disagree in an intelligent way.A. from Aus.

    1. Hello A. We always welcome dissent here. :) Yes, I also read that she considered attending. Visiting her family and attending a public event like the Coronation Festival are separate things. I think by this time in the pregnancy she is probably tired of the media circus. Tired of finding a flattering dress, tired of squeezing into heels, tired, tired, tired. I'd have skipped it too. She can certainly drive over to her parents' place in skinnies and flats and a comfy top and relax with her mom and a hot cup of tea. The Coronation Festival really isn't the same importance as the earlier festivities, either. She really isn't obliged to do anything she doesn't want to at this point, so for whatever reason, she decided to skip. She actually hasn't been seen by anyone, to my knowledge, in weeks...

  2. Guess you've never been pregnant before. Especially towards and into the last month, you aren't feeling so energetic with everything at it's tightest, fullest and least comfortable. Engagements mean dressing up, high heels and large crowds that make it hard to duck in and duck out. Being at home with family is a no brainer...relaxed, open conversation, no cameras, no judgements....just support and love in anticipation of the life-changing event.

    1. I agree. She is probably ready to have this baby and just doesn't want any more photos, any more press. I can't blame her.

  3. I heard these "excuses" from the very beginning. But I accept it must be extremely difficult. For me it is still not explaining why she took a long flying trip easily rather than "work"? A.

    1. Well, the flying was earlier in the pregnancy, right? She isn't a full-time working royal yet, so we have been very lucky by her busy schedule as it is. I think that ultimately, she is free to administer her time as she chooses until William commits more fully to the royal life.

  4. Dear A from Aus., In regards to her trip to Mystique, I imagine that the trip was planned some time in advance, possibly even before she became pregnant. Also, since then Kate has been carrying on with her usual engagments and William has been working so it's possible that the trip in February was the only time that they both had a break in their busy schedules. I certainly don't begrudge the girl a vacation!

I have to admit the use of "excuses" rubs me the wrong way. Pregnancy affects each woman differantly, some have a great time and other suffer every minute. Both of my pregnancies where night and day from each other. The first was wonderful except for a little morning sickness, the second was fraught with complications from start to finish. It was impossible to make any advance plans as I never knew what each day might bring. And the thought of having to put on panty hose inorder to listen to a concert makes me shudder! Also, Kate does work not just "work".

I agree that Pippa looked lovely in this post. She either hits it out of the park or is no where near the park. I really liked how she styled her hair for the concert and would love to see her wear it like that more often.

Thanks Jane for a great post! I hope your next post will be announcing the arrival of Baby Cambridge!

    1. We are still waiting. :( Thank you, though, I am so glad you like the blog! I agree about the ups and downs. They vacation regularly in Mustique and I expect they will for years to come. It was probably good medicine for her.

Haha, agree on Pippa. She is one extreme or the other. :)

  5. Hi Jane-
I don't know why people are bring up the Duchess work ethics. The girl is very pregnant and it is not unusually for a person in the UK to take 6 months to a year off when they have a child. And as you have stated that she is still not a full time working royal. In 2012 she made 122 engagements. Not bad for someone who is not a full time royal. People also don't understand that she does alot of work behind the scenes. There is alot of work that goes on before you go on your engagement.

I wish the Duchess could stay at home and be a mommy but that is not how the royal family works. But I bet we will only see the Duchess for awhile making appearances with William.
