She's Baaack: Kate is Fit and Fabulous for SportsAid at Olympic Park

Friday, October 18, 2013

Her sparkly number at the Tusk Gala left mixed reviews among her fans, but Kate returned to the spotlight again today leaving no opportunity whatsoever for discussion. Kate was at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for SportsAid, and if her signature skinnies didn't tell their own tale, her enthusiastic participation in some volleyball certainly ended all debate. This Princess is back in top form.

I had been hoping for an event where we would see her in a fabulous coat dress by Emilia Wickstead or keeping warm in MaxMara, but she looked gorgeous nonetheless in her JBrand skinnies, Breton striped shirt, and her sky-high cork wedges by Stuart Weitzman. I honestly cannot figure how she walks in those, let alone plays some volleyball.

This is obviously a look with which she is pretty comfortable, since she wore almost the same get-up to the Olympics last year. I think every piece is a recycle. Certainly the wedges are very familiar to us all, I can't be 100% certain, but I think this Smythe blazer is the same one she has worn in the past including the NA tour, and today's Ralph Lauren striped top looks very much like the one she was spotted grocery shopping in a month or so ago.

(Brief break to go to the store for new batteries. Seriously, the whole rechargeable batteries for a cordless mouse thing is starting to feel like a scam.)

This video is not great resolution at all, but it was the only one I saw on YouTube right now.

False alarm, found one from the MailOnline:

Kate's hair has gotten a lot longer and darkened up a bit since the summer. I felt like her eyebrows stood out pretty darkly today, too, which I loved with her hair and make-up. She really looked relaxed today, frankly, much better than the Tusk Gala. She seemed tense and tired that night. She looks much happier and healthier today. My favorite picture below:

Just yesterday, Prince William officiated at what I believe was his first investiture service, marking yet another step toward full-time royal. There was a healthy amount of speculation about what William would wear--he had a choice of three armed services' uniforms or a plain suit. He went with the air-force.

Among the various individuals who were honored was UK tennis star Andy Murray. Kate, an avid tennis fan, has been spotted many times enjoying Murray matches, and William and Kate have been to watch him play more than once.

Well, sometimes they watched him play, sometimes not so much...

Sometimes it seemed they were making plans for later, the nature of which I will not speculate... ;)

Anywaaay, it has been a solid fourteen days since I last posted and has felt like absolutely forever. All this week seemed focused on one highlight: Kate's Friday appearance. It is so, so fun to see her out again and to finally get to blog, too!

We have George's christening next week on the 23rd and then there is a 100 Women in Hedge Funds Gala at KP on the 24th. One of the drawbacks of William and Kate throwing parties at their new digs is we miss out on arrival and departure shots. So, I am less excited about that party plan than I was before... Still, I expect photos to be released, so it is sure to be a fun week ahead!

  1. Welcome back:-)) Its so good that you returned with a great post, thanks Jane. I am not that enthusiasti c about her wedges and skinnies though, it is a miss for me. I dont understand what she had in mind to be honest, she knew where she is goin. She looked happy but still weary fpr me in certain photos. She will do better I hope for the Gala event!? A.

    1. Thank you; so glad you liked the post! I have been DYING to blog, I can't believe how excited I was not only to see Kate, but to blog again. It's been busy, but worth the time! I am very excited to see what she wears to the Gala. :)

  2. The striped top from last year looks like a scoop neck.

This year's looks like a boat neck.

    I prefer the newer one.

    1. Yes, they are different shirts. Last year's stripe shirt was a scoop neck and sleeveless, but the Ralph Lauren she is wearing today--and I believe the same shirt when she was shopping--is boat necked with sleeves. Under the jacket I liked the scooped neck a little more, but the Ralph Lauren is the nicer looking shirt when she takes off the jacket--to my mind.

  3. I am so excited for a post! This is, hands down, my go-to blog for all things Cambridge and Middleton. It is so even keel and well done. Kate looks FABULOUS! She is so fit and the picture of health in these photos. I have missed this version of Kate. She appears to be coming into her own publicly now that she is a mother and has been able to get somewhat used to the life of a public figure. Keep it coming, Kate!

Question: Now that Harry has a girl that is 'tipped to marry him' (rolls eyes), will you do any posts on her or him or will you just stick with the DoC's?

    1. I feel like I always make the same, Oh thanks, reply when people say tis, but it is always so genuine. Thank you! I am endlessly excited that people enjoy my blog. :) Thank you for reading!! I don't think so, unless she is at an event with the other royals. There is no way to know if she will go the distance, but more importantly, I don't like what she wears. I really think the girl needs a stylist. :( Haha, I really think I hate almost everything I have seen her in in public, so, that might not be the best scenario.

    2. You are welcome! I don't really care for Cressida's style myself. Only the rich can get away with dressing like hobo's and it being referred to as 'fashion' and 'edgy'.

  4. Finally we got to see Kate, it feels like it's been ages. I agree with the first post, why on earth did she wear 4 inch heels to a sporting event, surely she should have known that she would have been invitied to participate. Other than that I like she looked wonderful today. Her hair looks more casual (and a little flatter) than it did before she had George, I imagine she doesn't have the time to sit for an hour or more to have it "done".

Thanks Jane for a great blog! I can't wait to see what Kate wears to the gala next week!

    1. Well, heels always make your legs look slimmer, so my bet is, since she probably isn't down to her ideal weight yet, that she wore the really tall wedges for a confidence boost. In addition to the fact that she favors sky-high heels to begin with. :)

Thanks you for reading and commenting!

  8. Happy to see Kate again. She looks great. I kinda wish she had lost the weight "slower" so as to tell women "it's OK, to take a few months" :p It just seems everyone has to look enviable 2 months later. Makes me worry about when I have children. Hopefully it will be as easy as most make it seem nowadays.

Not thrilled about the outfit. We have seen her with stripes plus navy before and I dislike those shoes. They are awfully exaggerated (in my book). I don't know if Kate is insecure of her height (since Prince W is really tall nxt to her) or if she had the dramatic height to appear thinner (as higher heels always help us). Her hair is also way to long for my liking and I think that is probably why it has lost volume at the crown.
Had she at least done something different (hairdo perhaps) I wouldn't find it as such a boring outfit.

Going back to the shoes... what was she thinking, really? I read how some kids where told she would participate in a game with them and was unable due to the shoes. I think it was *expected* that she would participate for a million reasons and the kids sounded disappointed. I think that is why she felt bad and at the end accepted the volleyball game. This made think about something I read about Princess Diana and how she would ask both P William and Harry to be in THEIR BEST behavior and do their very best when shaking hands and walking the line. It said how she stressed that for them it could be dull but they had to consider how it would be a lifetime experience for the people shaking their hand and how they would treasure that memory of such a simple thing - in that case, a lot of pressure on them since THEY were the kids having to live up to X complete strangers (adults*) expectations.

So I wish Kate someone who would emphasize that, particularly in this case where she is an adult and her main audience where kids/teens. I can't help but feel disappointed for them too and absolutely dislike that outfit.

    1. Yes, I completely agree! I found the outfit to be very inconsiderate of her audience. These events are planned down to every minute and she surely should have known she would be "asked" to join in. I feel she starting to make a mockery of herself in her too-tight skinnies and heels to play sports in.

    2. Yes, a mockery of herself. Ugh! Just glad she didn't have an accident. That would have been dreadful.

Anyways, wishing she had better advisers...

    3. I think Kate has snapped back in to shape as much from breastfeeding as anything else, it sure does suck the weight off you. She was slim before the pregnancy and she didn't put on all that much during it so probably didn't have much to lose anyway. She's one of those lucky women who is naturally athletic and slim (slightly envious sigh) x

    4. Beatrix: I think Annie is right that breast feeding really helps take the weight off, so I imagine Kate hasn't had to try too hard. She stepped out with her natural post delivery stomach at the hospital, and I don't know that she really owes anyone a slow journey back to her preferred fitness level. I feel that she should do what is right for her. I am sure emotionally, given the world stage she lives on, that slimming down as quickly as is healthy physically is also healthy emotionally. Obviously, we all want her to be comfortable and happy, so I think it is good she has so effortlessly bounced back.

I didn't hear much about the events she was supposed to take part in, but I imagine she was fully briefed. She does love her heels. :)

      Thank you all for commenting!

  9. Unlike some, I am inclined to think that what Kate wore was appropriate, given the occasion. Anything I read, prior to said occasion, suggested that she would be watching, not participating with, the athletes. Methinks she was blindsided. She was, according to reports prior to this event, expected to attend, and perchance participate in, workshops later on. This she did.

    1. Yes, I don't think they are ever really slated to full-on play a sports game. I think everyone is fairly charmed when royals make the few token shots, etc. We have seen the same level of involvement on many other engagements. if there was a mess-up on this event, I am sure it was intentional on her art, and that she will learn from it.

  10. Why, oh why, do we only see her in blue skinny jeans? There was that light orange pair she wore for one of the events. But seriously, from Canada to present, there are the same blue skinny jeans, although I know they might sport different labels. I find it striking. I wonder how often she's washing them out (no offense), or does she just have dozens? Does Will get tired of looking at them at home?

Is it just me, or is Will becoming more dignified and "kingly" as he gets older? The baby looks like he know's it's all about him, and is satisfied with that. But Kate needs more of an image than her smile, or her athleticism. Dresses are nice, but hopefully she will be able to define herself in a more royal way. Obviously she seems to be a very nice girl, but I hope that she truly becomes part of the royal family, and is able to distinguish herself as an individual. I guess we all have time...

  11. I agree, I think Kate is wonderful and beautifuclt and elegant but I am very dissappointed as well. I keep waiting for something more form her.

She needs to develope a little more. Everything she does seems very rehearsed and it just seems like everyone else around her tells her what to do and say. I feel like her "passion "for humanitarian work has been taught to her since she is a royal rather than it being agenuine genuine concern and priority for her. There is no real substance, feeling and not enough conviction in the way she expresses herself. She just smiles a lot and makes politr awkward conversation which is what she has to do at the events but I can assure that if you would randomly go up to her now and ask her whats he thinks of the crisis in Lebanon is or if you asked her who is currently standing trial at the UN for cirmes against humanity she wouldnt know.

Obviosuly as a royal, a lot that she does and says gets streamlined but there is room for serious improvement. I just feel that she is in such a prominent person in society at the moment, she could do so much for the world than provide entertainment, great photo ops and contribute to the fashion industry.

I feel like she hasnt done much to get people to listen to what she has to say about her charitable efforts.

She is ofcourse under a lot of pressure and her job is so difficult and she lives a crazy lifestyle but it should not stop her from doing more good.

I also saw a wonderful photo somewhere with her and William smilling and looking down on George at the christening but I can't seem to find it anymore. Its a really great pic for your blog. I will keep Looking, its really cute :-)
