Down Under Day 14: Stella McCartney Touch Down in Canberra

Sunday, April 20, 2014

After the Zoo, the Cambridges flew to Canberra, the capital city of Australia. They will be staying at Government House for the remainder of the tour. Kate deplaned in a recycle: her blue Stella McCartney. This is the third change of clothes and sets a record for Kate. Although last Sunday she changed three times, from Emilia Wickstead to Jonathan Saunders, to her Zara blazer, this is the first time she has changed into three separate dresses. I think that is a bigger deal than putting your skinnies on and switching up the top and shoes. Obviously, a debatable point...

All three of the Cambridges were wearing varying sheds of blue, and against the dusky pink of the sunset made a pretty lovely picture. George was doing his usual little stretch. The Prince's Pose is going strong. He has a flair, I have to say.

This dress was phenomenal on its first wear. Kate wore it to an Olympic event at the National Portrait Gallery in 2012, Road to 2012: Aiming High. Wearing an $80,000 Cartier necklace helped, but it really was a beautiful wear. Her hair was in those bouncy curls she favored so much and the bright sunlight made the entire ensemble sparkle.

As is becoming the norm, William took over baby-duty at the base of the stairs so that Kate could accept flowers from a waiting youngster.

George is certainly a healthy boy, but I always laugh at how much smaller he looks when his daddy holds him. He is certainly the hunk when on Kate's hip.

This is a recap of the entire day, but includes footage of the royal trio deplaning in Canberra.

As you all know, I am quite a fan of the Middleton family, so I can't help but think of them home in England missing grandson George just a little on his first Easter. Pippa has described her family Easter, saying as children they would marble dye their eggs the night before the egg hunt Easter morning. Apparently, they still all partake in a competitive hunt before the large family dinner. From George's behavior at the Plunket playdate, I get the sense he will be a robust participant in this Middleton family tradition in years to come. (Love this photo--Mike is not a waver...)
