Middletons Attend a Wedding in Perthshire, Scotland

Sunday, April 27, 2014

The gods of royal watching are smiling on me. As William and Kate waved goodbye to Australia, with baby George in tow, I thought, "There they go. Home to England, home to Grandma Carole and Grandpa Mike, the Pipster (and Uncle James)...and I want to see them, too!" I am not just a Kate fan, I am a Middleton Clan fan. I take my fashion cues from Carole, as well. When she wore those Aquatalia booties, I tripped over my toes on my way to Nordstrom to purchase a pair myself. The whole family = fabulous.

As I say, luck was on my team today. Not just Pip, but Carole, Mike, and even Nico were photographed at a wedding in Scotland. You need to see the fun photos, they are all here. Every member of the family looked amazing. It’s in Kate’s genes, kids. I do need to ask, though: Mr. Jackson, when are you going to throw down some hardware? I am entirely ready for a little "Royal Wedding." And, Prince George is going to need some first cousins. Let's not leave the ball entirely in Harry's court, eh?

Pippa's coat looked a dead ringer for her Suzannah from George's christening, and the DM seems to agree. It looks to be the the trapeze, but in silk. I have to say I preferred the silk cotton version from the christening, but this was also lovely.

Carole returned to a designer that is fast becoming her predominate label. Both her dress and her coat are Catherine Walker creations, and as usual, she pulls it off with perfect aplomb.

The red Chloe coat is a summer-weight wool crepe:

Underneath, she was wearing the complementing silk print Poppy Day Dress:

Both ladies are wearing hats that I have yet to ID. Since they are not immediately apparent to me, I may click about tomorrow looking for them, but for the moment they will remain anonymous. Carole's hat reminds me of several worn by Kate, and Pippa opted for a structured beret, which is a style that has worked very well for her every time she has worn it over the past few years.

Looking good, Middletons, looking very good.

Kate and William and supposedly undertaking a trip to Scotland at the end of May. Their Royal Highnesses hold the Scottish titles of Earl and Countess of Strathearn, and are known as such when north of the border.  Something to look forward to!

  1. Carole always looks lovely. I love the crispness of Catherine Walker coats. Poppa, however... I hate to be disagreeable but I thought everything about her looked awful in the pictures. The coat is terrible. Bad cut, fit, and color. I don't care for her beret with a lone feather plopped on top. I really don't mean to be mean. It has to be incredibly difficult to be the sister of Duchess Catherine with the inevitable comparisons, but really, she missed the mark with this outfit.

  3. I agree brisowmom. Carol Middleton is absolutely gorgeous, I have never seen her in a miss for me. Pippas coat looks bad on her it is strange habit of theirs to buy the same coat or dress in different colour from the same designer, as Kate did. Overall I do not prefer Pippas style I think, she might have lots of money but less taste. A.

  4. Poops looks not so good, sorry to say. If that is the same coat, it must've shrunk. I don't usually care for most of pippas casual wear, I like more when she wears formal wear. This is a fail

    2. LMAO!

I don't know which of your comments made me laugh harder -- the first or the second, but I am still recovering from the cramps! That was precious.

The name either way is spot on, Pippa/Poops is a mess. The color is drab, the coat fits badly like a too large sack and is all wrinkled. What was she thinking?! Carole looks wonderful -- she should teach her younger daughter how to dress herself.

    3. Pippa's coat looks like like what ladies in the 60's wore when they were pregnant. Carol looks great and Kate needs a little bit more of that, bold colors with some pattern somewhere in the outfit.

  5. Hi Jane, thank goodness we have the Middleton's to help us over our Kate withdrawal! :). I really liked Carole's outfit today, the red looks wonderful on her and the style if very flattering for her figure. Will you ever consider devoting a post to Carole and her great fashion choices? I know I would be very interested in learning more about the Grandmother to the Future King.

Poor Pippa, where to start. First, the cut of this coat dress wasn't flattering for her the first time she wore it to George's christening and secondly the material in this go around made it even worse. The coat looks a little wrinkled and the color is... what is the color cream, green?? I really can't tell. It seems that this whole outfit can't decide what it should be, it's drab but shiny, expensive but wrinkled, not figure flattering but bespoke. When I see pictures of her out and about she looks great, casual but chic it's when she tries to "dress up" that she seems to run into trouble. IMO a fit and flare style would suit her body type very well as she is very athletic and trim. Lastly, would someone please wrest her eyeliner away from her!!

I do agree that Mr. Jackson needs to put a ring on it! I would love to see Pippa as a bride not just a wedding guest, I bet her and Carole would put together one heck of a party.

    1. I had the same question about the color of that dress. Green? Cream? Off-green? The dress really was a mess and, hopefully, after she sees the photos she'll either have it fitted better or forget it altogether - bespoke or not! See what happens when Kate is half a world away? Pippa needs big sis to help her out a bit.

    2. Hi Jane! Nice post. I agree with Lauri, please write a post about Carol's fashion. I asked you a few months back. Kate dresses like her mother. The have worn the exact dress and hats! Also They both like to wear skinny jeans and boots. I think Carol is very elegant and knows how dress. Pipa on the other hand, has more misses than hits. She seems to struggle, sorry not to sound like that "designer". But she does.

  6. Hi Jane! Did you see the Queen's dress at the Northern Ireland-themed Reception at Windsor Castle, on 10 April? Her dress reminded me of the Emilia Wickstead Kate wore when she visited the NPG. A "seal of approval" to Kate's dress, I suppose!

  7. Carole looked fabulous but Pippa looks terrible. I didn't like this coat dress at Prince George's christening and it looks even worse in the silk. It doesn't flatter her figure at all and the fabric is a wrinkled mess. Do you think that she's trying to look frumpy on purpose to get away from the 'Her Royal Hotness' nickname? That's the only thing I can think of to explain such an awful look.

  8. I agree with most comments here.
Carole is thumb up, and that make me think walker as a brand for carole, not for kate.

  9. I have to agree with your other commenters - I think Carole looks lovely and very age appropriate. Pippa on the other hand; that coat is doing her no favours. Hopefully it looked better in person. It must be hard work trying to think every time you do anything as to how it will look in a newspaper.

  10. Score one for you. I too am a Middleton family fan. You are the only blog with this report. Carol keeps knocking it out of the park. I am closer to her age than you are and she is style idol of mine. The new pictures couldn't have come at a better time. Thanks for your great blog. I love it.

  11. I love your blog. Score one for you. No one else has this covered yet. I adore the entire Middleton Clan. In my mind they may have saved the crown. Their strong family connectedness may be the best thing that happened to the Windsors in a couple of centuries. I love Carole. I am closer to her age, and her stylish, age appropriate, chic style is an inspiration to me. Thank you, thank you.

  12. Carol look phenomenal - as always! Pippa, on the other hand, really needed some fashion help here. When I saw the photos of it in the Daily Mail I was surprised at how "frumpy" she looked. It didn't fit well and was not flattering to her at all. The photo you've posted is the best I've seen of it but, in general, that empire waist look too high - like it was cutting across her breast instead of underneath. I was disappointed. But...I would love to have that poppy dress Carol is wearing!

  13. I think Pippa's dress is ill fitting because it looks like she isn't wearing a bra. Hopefully in person this isn't as noticeable.

  14. Thank you for this post. I agree with most of the other comments on Pippa's outfit. It's terrible! I must say I usually don't like Pippa's choices, and I think she is not very good-looking. She is very fit, but this doesn't mean she's beautiful... and she shows poor taste in the fashion department. Sorry to be so negative... She's probably a very nice person and looks are not that important, but I can only comment on appearances so...

  15. I actually liked Pippa's outfit for the Christening. Maybe it's the fabric this time around but I agree, Pippa's coat this time isn't great. As for Carole, love her outfit but don't like the hat at all. Too overwhelming I think for the outfit. Something smaller would be nice, I think. I'd also like to see Carole's hair in an updo on occasions like this with a smaller hat or fascinator.
