The Middleton Medals: Down Under Week 3!

Friday, April 25, 2014

Well, Ladies, Gentlemen, honored guests...It is now time for the third and final round of the  Middleton Medals: Down Under 2014. Competition is at it most intense this week, with some late shows really shining. But, first, we must announce the Readers' Choice from Week 2. I was so excited to see what you all chose, because it was such a tough week! Several of these were really neck and neck, but with votes tallied from all platforms, the winner is--fair and square-- #5.

The LK Bennet Poppy Dress at Amberley!
Two and three were almost tied, but #6 beat out #4 for second place:

Leaving the Zimmermann in 3rd:

I did not expect this outcome, which made it all the more fun!

Now, it is time for the third and final set. Week 3 was full of formals, and we will also now vote best hat of the tour:

#1 The Dusty Mauve Roksanda Ilincic For Arrival at Uluru:

#2 The Grey and White Hobbs Recycle for the Rock Viewing:

# 3 McQueen Pink of Perfection in Adelaide:

#4 Grass Green Catherine Walker for Arboretum:

#5 The White Lela Rose for Evening Reception:

Okey-dokey. The Best Formal for Week 3, winning the final Gold Middleton Medal of Down Under 2014 goes to...#3.

Pink of Perfection in McQueen.

I do love the Michael Kors and it gave me pause, but this choice was not too hard. I am a little obsessed with this beautiful ensemble and what it does for stunning Kate. I think the pale pink with her perfect tan, dark hair, and sparkling eyes is just unbeatable. Love the nude accessories and the pleating on the skirt. The dress (separates, I know) was so delicate and feminine, with movement and easy grace. Just gorgeous. Kate in top form!

Best Hat of the Tour! The Winner is...

The Grey Jane Taylor.

Tough choice between this hat and the red Gina Foster, but I loved the more subtle color and the very unusual design. Hey, what about this hat with the pink McQueen? I don't know, this hat may need the absolute simplest of partners, but...maybe it could work... I do. not. know.

The ball is in your court! What will win Readers' Choice for Week 3?  Don't forget to also vote for your favorite chapeau!!

  1. Hi Jane,

For me it's #3 and #3 for a win!! The pale pink McQueen separates are sublime and the nude accessories made the outfit. The dove grey Jane Taylor is stunning and works so perfectly with McQueen coat.

  4. Hi Jane! I vote for #7 and #3. I hope to see the dress coat as a fashion item in the fall, since it was so prominent in this tour.

  6. Hate to sound like I'm copying, but my choices are also the pink McQueen and the dove gray hat. I didn't even have to think about these choices; they were hands down my favorites.

  7. It has to be the pink McQueen and the teal Jane Taylor for me! Thanks Jane!

  8. Same choices as yours, Jane - #3 for the pink dress (even though I still want to chase after her with hem tape for the back of that skirt, bahaha!), and #3 for the chapeau. Both were so lovely! ~Katie :)

  9. I agree! Pink McQueen it is. My favourite hat is the red Gina Foster...just love that Jackie Kennedy pill box style.
Thanks so much for the great coverage of the tour...much appreciated!

  10. This is against the grindstone, but as soon as I saw her mauve dress I fell in love, #1, and #4 for me. Love the "duchess blue" and the texture of the hat is so deep and almost lush looking.

  11. By the way, I read that Camilla's brother passed away. I wonder if the news made an impact on Kate and William. Any thoughts? Or did you mention this already? I may have missed your comment.

    1. I did not mention it specifically in any post, although I was aware of his tragic passing. I am sure they are shocked as anyone is when an unexpected death occurs within general acquaintance. It is not clear, however, that William or Kate would have been particularly close to Mr. Shand. I imaging their thoughts are very much with the Duchess of Cornwall and her distress, though. :(

  13. I vote for the pink McQueen and turquoise Jane Taylor. I don't know if she'll ever be able to wear that hat again, but I thought it was so clever to have the fern on top!

  15. The gold gift bag the Duchess is holding when she is wearing the Zimmerman dress on Manly Beach was given to her by my 7 year old daughter. She had hand made the gifts for Kate and George and was so excited to be able to give the gifts to her. So without a doubt that is my absolutely favourite photo.

    1. Oh my gosh! This is so neat! Well, you are celebrity. :) Really, though, very, very cool! What a beautiful picture as a keepsake with a fun story! Your daughter must have been so excited. Congratulations! Thanks for sharing these details. :) ~Jane

    2. It really was such a special day for her. We unfortunately did not get to meet Kate ourselves (she came incredibly close but was redirected), but a gorgeous young girl in the surf life saving club managed to run the present out to Kate and Kate turned around to my daughter and called out 'thank you' with a beautiful smile and wave to my daughter. She is just lovely!

I'm so happy that the press have released photos of her carrying the bag! Now I am just trying to get a good copy of it so that I can frame it to hang on my daughter's bedroom wall!

    3. How cool that the bag looks so perfect with her outfit! There's no way you could have planned that -- amazing and special!

      Thanks for sharing.

  21. Just a thought -would the Corbett hat from the garden party not be prefect with the pink separates? The under lace to offset the simplicity of the top and skirt?
