Kate Spotted Shopping at John Lewis in Delicate Pink Coat

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

Kate has been spotted shopping at one of her favorite department stores, John Lewis. The recent birthday girl was spotted Monday in Chelsea indulging in some retail therapy.  Kate was wearing an as yet unseen Zara coat in delicate pink, or as E! describes it, bone.

I wonder if this is the coat that she wore to Thursford? The report at the time claimed the coat was beige, and this could be anything from pink to bone to possibly beige, in the right light. That might be stretching it, but.... It also fits the style she may have chosen for a private visit to Santa!

Kate spent more than an hour at John Lewis, and as the pictures attest, did not leave empty handed. It could have been products from the Living department, not clothes, but I wonder if she might be stocking up for a trip to the tropics? I am still very hopeful that Kate and George, a least, will travel to Mustique. Obviously, if William could slip away that would be doubly fun.

With multiple upcoming engagements, however, she may have been picking up items she needs for those events, or, as mentioned, it may bot have been clothes she was buying at all.  One thing is certain, she looked lovely. This coat is perfect and right up her alley in its style.

I should have an ID quickly, but I wanted to get this up ASAP. Unlooked for Kate sightings really are the best! We have a busy close to this week, with two back-to-back engagements. See you all soon!

[The full report on her excursion is here with more great pictures.]

  1. The scarf is described as evergreen, good casual look but as usual, too short for a princess.

    1. I laughed when I read that. What do you think? To me, that is as "evergreen" as a three-week dry Christmas tree. In fairness, the writer may have been describing the original...I think the lighting is off in the pictures since the bag isn't usually that minty color. It is her grey Tod's bag...

    2. Why do princesses have to have a certain hem length?

"Why do princesses have to have a certain hem length?"

Probably for the same reason princes can't wear shorts or tank tops.

  2. Yes, I'm sure the colors are off. Her hair looks reddish! Gorgeous coat though.

  3. Hi Jane!
Kate always seems to enjoy "trips" to Peter Jones before new engagements...I suppose that is a way to distract herself a little bit more doing normal things before stressful days and to return among people after a bit of seclusion (even if with a wonderful baby!)...I'm just wondering..she has long stops between engagements so I think she could live every time like our "first day of the year at work/university"...In her position,I would live it that way.
As you mentioned, probably the colours in the photos are altered as her bag has changed completely and the coat itself is different from one photo to another. Anyway I really like this coat and all the ensemble is lovely on her. I find this length suits her so well and it's perfect with those flat boots. I usually prefer this same style even for myself.
I'm amused by the fact she always shows the same bag during these shopping outings since many years...one supposes a princess with a walk-in closet full of bags and shoes..but it sounds like I have more bags and shoes than her..hihi..Jokes aside, it's something really appreciable. I hope for her she's going to Mustique soon...although I have doubts about the maximum week of pregnancy that is allowed to travel by air! I thought it was the seventh month but I don't know whether the beginning or the ending. Anyway, I can't see her mum turns 60 without her daughter and her grandson.
Have a nice week following all her next engagements....I'm sure I'll follow you..
p.d. I have to do so much exercise with my English during this period that it's nice that Kate is going to work again. In this way I can read something more interesting than the "readings" on my exercise books.hihi...Lately I like English history as well...I'm really "inside" the Tudor era at the moment..hihi..so interesting!

I'm sorry, I'm writing too much!

  5. Hello Miss Jane: I love your blog. I have been getting the sense you are a bit busy these days and it is harder for you to respond to messages but I wanted to let you know how much we still love you and appreciate the time you put into this space!

  6. Is it just me, or does it look like she had her hair trimmed? I guess I'll find out Thursday!

  7. Perhaps shopping for Mum's birthday?
I appreciate your work on this blog, Jane.

  8. Clearly, I need to take lessons from Kate; how does anyone spend over an hour in a busy department store and emerge without a hair out of place, no stain on her coat--nor even a wrinkle-- and no visible runs in her stockings? How does she manage to leave looking as if she had just had her hair done, had donned her coat, and was off to lunch in some posh cafe with a couple of friends? Outrageous!!

  9. Not pertaining to this picture exclusively, but I noticed that Kate has been looking more stressed out than before. Is being the duchess really that hard? I'm being serious and without any sarcasm here, what is going on in the life of a young woman who is loved by her husband, supported by her family, has a child and money and doesn't have to worry about much? I'd guess she doesn't read the tabloids, which is smart, but then why does she look so stressed?

    1. It is quite shallow to assume that the privileged to not have stresses in their life. They may not have the same stress as the average citizen, but they are still human and have their own worries. Furthermore, Kate is pregnant and is an HG sufferer, so it is highly possible that she may still be suffering from bouts of illness. Being pregnant also carries its own stress for the well being of the unborn child. This is true for all women, so imagine for a moment what it is like when they eyes of the world are on you for an entire pregnancy. I would say that is stressful.

    2. @Anonymous "Being pregnant also carries its own stress for the well being of the unborn child. This is true for all women..." - it isn't actually. And not a lot of women have such a tight family circle to help and support them in everything, not to mention the same level of financial stability.

    3. IP, you only seem to be thinking in terms of finance and family support. By well being of the child I am referencing the health of the child. No money or support can take away the stress of hoping that your unborn child will be healthy.

    4. Just tossing it out there...they say the 2nd trimester is the best. You have great energy, happy hormones, aren't uncomfortable yet so you can still sleep. So in that sense, I agree her "stressed" photos seem weird. But she could still be dealing with sickness, which some women have throughout pregnancy. Who knows what is going on. I love the saying "be kind, for everyone is fighting a hard battle". :-) But I think it is duly noted that some candids she looks stressed or not as relaxed as usual.

    5. I love that saying anon 5:23. It hangs in the office of my child's school. Words to live by .

  10. I understand your question, but I think you're being a little simplistic. We have no idea what she might have to worry about. The BRF isn't your run-of-the-mill family. I would think just being a member would be stressful most of the time. And she has a young child and is expecting another very soon. Yes, she has help, but she's still the mom and the head of the family. Then she has her household staff to manage, two homes, various charities, her "duchess" staff (handlers) - (PR people, Assistants, Security, etc.), her "nightmare" hair. Her husband is a student at present and likely has stresses that she is likely having to manage. With all of the terrorist threats in the world right now, there's probably that too. So, I'm not saying that her life isn't privileged, but that doesn't mean that she isn't busy, juggling things like the rest of us, and generally feeling stressed at the moment. Not to mention probably having a price on her head (and the heads of her husband and child). Actually, I think she'd have to be super human not to be a little stressed these days.

    1. @Jane in Canada - I'm not sure about that. I'm comparing Kate to the women of royal families and they look way less stressed. Queen Rania, Princess Victoria of Sweden, Princess Madelaine, Sophie - just to give a few examples, all look fine. The only other example of someone who looks tired and overwhelmed that comes to mind is Princess Charlene.

    1. I don't have a problem with her shopping. It is her job to dress nicely and she's been actually pretty low key so far.

    2. I disagree. Her job would be something different.....

  12. I don't know that she looks so stressed. Rather it seems she is just lost in thought. One picture shows her going down stairs and since she is carrying her bags, she doesn't want to risk a fall. She doesn't need to have a wide smile at all times. I'm sure that tomorrow she'll rise to the occasion and be perfectly amiable and happy at her event(s).

  13. @ IP It would be hard on Kate to digest the mess Prince Andrew, with the staunch help of his ex-wife, has managed to make of his life--Andrew is currently involved in a sex scandal. Just this alone might cause a few grey hairs, and no doubt, William is not best pleased with his uncle; his temper might be getting the better of him. Further, there is the larger future of the monarchy to consider; the greater the mess other members of the BRF create, the more ammunition is given to the republican movement in the UK, and Kate is in the godawful position of being, potentially, the wife of a future king and the mother of another future king. In her place, I would be bloody worried.

It is also possible that her HG is still hanging around, altho perhaps reduced to the level of ordinary morning sickness. Any undue stress would not be good for her physical health/current appearance. And who knows what other trouble might be brewing behind closed doors?

Gosh haven't you been pregnant before....???

    2. Good point! As much as I love Will & Kate, we know he has a bit of a temper...or is at least admittedly stubborn. If William is stressed or grumpy (and he is more "front lines" with the BRF), Kate has to mitigate that and work to keep him happy for the overall happiness for the family. That dynamic happens in a lot of marriages/families. So on top of normal life, William is studying and probably to some extent is involved in conversations regarding the BRF perception/reputation/etc.

    3. Or she's just normally going about her business. When I'm concentrating on something, even shopping or walking or getting to my car, my expression looks much like hers. I would hate to think what I would look like if I had papps snapping pictures as I'm annoyed about the new crack in my windshield or something of that nature.
