Photos of William, Kate, and George Leaving Mustique

Monday, February 9, 2015

I was just thinking it was high-time we got the usual pictures filtering back from Mustique and had almost resigned myself to the possibility the mid-vacation shots were all we would get, when...Popsugar saved day:

Popsugar

At first glance, these look like shots taken several years ago as the Middletons and Cambridges left Mustique, but the addition of the bouncing, blond tot should set your mind at ease: these are new photos!  The royals were snapped at the St Lucia airport catching their connecting flight back to Britain. Is that Mr. Security? Someone has suggested it is, but he doesn't look tall enough to me. I don't know.

You can see a collection of all the holiday shots, including new snaps of Michael and Carole, at Popsugar here.  William and Kate left on Friday the 6th, which means they were on vacation for a solid two weeks. Kate should be tanned and relaxed for her day with Ben Ainslie this week...

In random royal news as we wait for Kate's next engagement on the 12th, Katie Storey, a reader of this blog (I think? I hope!) has launched a weekly podcast that takes a humorous angle on royal stories. There is a very clever guy who is the funny man, and they have several different polite perspectives on the monarchy. This morning I had it playing in the background as I made my coffee and oatmeal and puttered through emails. It is a bit edgy for the average royal crowd, I think, but I really found myself laughing quite a bit. It's fun, you should check it out. You can read more about it here, and you can download it for free on iTunes here

  1. Mr. Security indeed - the other photos from PopSugar show him facing the camera. Guess Mustique is one of the benefits to that job! Great post again Jane!

  2. Thank you really much for keeping us up-to-date! George looks even cuter in these pictures and he's wearing striped clothes again ;) Well, Kate loves stripes (especially blue and white) so this is no surprise

I think it's a pity that we didn't get so see a snap of kate's baby bump - not even underneath the lotty b dress or this time at the airport - the always seem to take a picture of her back...

Do you know if there were negative reactions in Britain about their holiday like last year?

    1. Um, I think there are always grumblers whenever Kate goes on vacation, but less for this one since it is an annual family vacation. Everyone knows it is coming and who can reasonably argue the woman can't join her family on their annual holiday? So, this trip doesn't kick up the dust that, say, the Maldives trip did, etc.

  3. They seem to have had a great time in Mustique. It's great we got some shots of that holiday. I hoped for them ;-).
They brought some summer feeling into frosty Europe :-)
Thank you, Jane, for sharing them all the last days!

    XOXO, Vicky

P.S. I hope you are well! I kept you in mind...
P.P.S.: What about your personal blog? Will you bring it up again? I enjoyed your post about Kate's work-out routine. Do you have some routine, too? (Sorry, for going off-topic :-/)

    1. Hello Vicky:
Sorry for the delay in responding! Thanks for your kind thoughts, too. They are felt and appreciated. :)
I keep wanting to relaunch the personal blog, but I just don;t know that I have the time at the moment. I do have a new semi-project on that topic coming up, and I will link if I decide to do that! I will detail my routine in the next fitness post, though, so it will kind of be like a personal blog post. :)
      xoxo, Jane

  4. Hi, Jane,

Thanks for this post and the fitness one!

I went to view the Pop Sugar photos. Is that Rock Star (and fellow Canadian), Bryan Adams, walking behind Carole Middleton in the photo where she has her hands up, holding down her hat?!

Maybe some other commenters could go and look at them and tell me if I'm right?

He still performs but is now also famous as a celebrity photographer (see photos of another Canadian (Go, us!!), supermodel Linda Evangelista, which he took for a campaign to fund raise for breast cancer research. Mustique is just his type of vacation hideaway...

Somewhat ironic to see him in the same spot as the Middletons and Kate and William since there have always been strong rumours that he and Princess Diana had a romance when her marriage to Prince Charles was falling apart. Probably just gossip...

Anyways-that Mustique is one happening place!

I'm going outside now to shovel some snow! Have a great week!

    1. The DM is reporting it is Brian Adams! Apparently he owns property on Mustique. I didn't think anything until you said it, then I wandered over to the DM and voila! Good eye ;-)

  5. The highlight of the photos for me? How these Englishmen dress to catch a transatlantic flight after a Caribbean vacation!! Granted William took the more casual 'dress casual' approach. But Mike's loafers and blazer are just too much, in a comical way! Does all boys boarding school do that to a guy? Is it because William and Mike had more affluent upbringings, than Carole and Kate did (i.e. Mike's family had more money than Carole's, and William's family has more money than Kate's).

I'm not trying to argue, but these photos of Kate proved my point in the other Mustique post that Kate is able to carry George. Maria isn't there to carry George because Kate can't or won't. Maria is there for other reasons, as many very pregnant women carry their toddlers.

Fun post to tie us over until later this week...so, thanks!!

She is wearing a SCRUNCHIE! In public?!?!? Yikes!

    1. That was my question! It looks like it might be some other type of hair accessory that has something only on the top rather than a full on scrunchie. I think. I hope.

    2. OMG What is wrong with wearing a scrunchie!!!! Maybe not at an official appearance, but on vacation. I don't see a problem.

      Delete
    3. Anon from 7:54am... what's wrong with wearing a scrunchie is that they went out of style over 20 years ago. You shouldn't even own one, let alone wear it in public whether you are a princess or anything else!

    4. Aren't the 80s coming back? I thought they were, a little bit? :) Scrunchies are a topic a lot of people feel strongly about... Maybe Kate really thinks Harry should still be with Cressida and it is her signal of solidarity. ;)

    5. I'm the Anon from 7:57 and Jane, you literally made me laugh out loud with your Cressida comment. Spot on. :)

  7. I think George's here become lighter, what you think? I'm happy that photographers published photos of the Cambridges when not on public engagement, days after they taken it or when they are home already. One sign of respect. the Cambridges should accept the fact that many wants to photograph them. Clap! Clap! to the photographers who take pictures in a good way.

  9. Jane, have you seen the pictures of Kate at the 1851 Trust dinner in December? A post while we wait for next engagement? :)

    1. I did! It was great to get full shots. I hope we can ID the dress, I am very interested to know about it. I actually reported on this event around the time: http://fromberkshiretobuckingham.blogspot.com/2014/12/kate-attends-1851-trust-board-meeting.html I will have to put my thinking cap on for a new topic. :)

  10. I'm mostly happy that they're back in the UK and Kate has an engagement on Thursday.

I was thinking about the question someone posted above about whether the UK press has been kind to Kate and William going on holiday. There are always snide comments about how much they work but I think that's inevitable. Was it last year that they went to Mustique and around the same time had another holiday abroad without George? I think it was the combination of the two that provoked more comment.

Interestingly, a lot of European royals are photographed on holiday (I have definitely seen photos of the Dutch, Danish and Spanish royal families on holiday). We used to get (posed) photos of William and Harry skiing with Charles. I wonder if we'll ever get to that with the Cambridges? I guess the idea of posed photos is to get rid of paparazzi so maybe they are comfortable with the odd paparazzi photo.

  11. I am having trouble convincing myself that William went to Mustique this year, for these reasons: 1. the presence of Mr. Security at the plane; 2. in all the pics of William, he had too much hair--his bald spot seems to have shrunk; 3. two full weeks in Mustique is unusually long and William is supposedly in the midst of coursework and exams. I have no difficulty believing that Kate, George and Nanny went since the pic of George shows him at his current age, whereas the pics of George on the steps to the plane suggest that he might be younger and that those pics on the plane might have been taken of an entirely different flight at a different time.

Regarding the idea of posing for photos on vacation in order to get rid of paparazzi pics, I don't think it works anymore, not with the internet. Apparently, pap pics actually bring much more money simply because they are often more interesting than those which are posed, which often look contrived.

    1. To me, Prince George looks older in these pictures than we have seen him before. He looks like he has thinned out a little and has more of a toddler face than that of a baby.
      Plus his hair is longer.

    2. I really think this is a recent pix. George's face looks much like photo published before Christmas. I think it is hard to assess his bald spot from these photos.

  12. Is it just me or does William always seem to be walking infront of Kate and George? I get it's royal protocol for kate to walk slightly behind him at public engagements, but he is letting his heavily pregnant wife carry a squirmy toddler up plane steps. It seems a pattern with William, he did not assist kate with carrying George down wet plane steps on their arrival to NZ and she almost consequently flashed the world. We rarely see the paternal side of William. It is a shame!!

    1. William often has to wait up for Kate, who can lag behind at times. I don't think it is a matter of some weird subservience or anything, no. On this particular photo, William is laden down like a pack-horse with all their bags. I think it entirely natural he do the heavy lifting of the inanimate objects and Kate carry their precious little George.

    1. Hmmm. Your post was deleted, or it was never approved? It should not have been deleted if it was approved, however, there are several scenarios in which it may have been rejected. If your comment broke one of the rules of posting, including verbal attacks on fellow posters, unkind comments directed at Kate and her family, etc. I don't like to let people who just dislike Kate rant about her on this blog. There are other forums for that. However, at times it can be hard for me to judge intent, and I try to assume the best of people's comments unless it is abundantly clear the individual has only negativity to convey. I also don't like to post wild and ludicrously illogical conspiracy theories, particularly ones that call into question George's paternity, etc. Our favorite Mr. Chubby Cheeks has both parents written all over him--so the premise is obviously false--but, I also find the implicit character assault on Kate to be offensive. These types of comments will also not be approved. If you do not fall into any of these categories, by all means comment again and we shall see what we can do about getting you approved.

      Best,
      Jane Barr

    2. Madam, or Sir... I will not approve your ill-mannered follow-up comments. With your best interest at heart, I suggest you spend your time, more thoughtfully and more productively, elsewhere. If, however, you insist upon taking the time and energy to write out your unsavory thoughts here, it is of little matter to me. Pressing delete is but the work of second.
      Best of luck!

  14. Can Kate take a break from all those who tries to accuse her and can William do what he wants? If the queen is not worried why should we? Don't all couples have arguments and some fuss in their married life? Those of us who are just gossipers just need some clue and the story is ready. Leave them alone for sometime folks, they will be fine.
