Live Blog: Duchess Kate is in Blue for Canada Arrival

Saturday, September 24, 2016

Watch the upcoming official welcome ceremony at CTV News here

Kate is in an absolutely stunning blue dress and hat by Lock & Co. for her arrival at the airport in Victoria today!

Kate's hat is almost identical to the red hat she wore to the Thames River Pageant in 2012, also by Lock & Co.

The family have been taken by motorcade to Government House, where the children will stay before William and Kate head to the official welcoming ceremony.

  1. Absolutely gorgeous.
Marvellous children---midnight and behaving beautifully, but am still laughing---George just about to shake hands with the Governor General when he spotted the helicopter landing and found that much more interesting.

    1. Yes, I giggled when he spotted the helicopter. A very normal reaction for a little boy. :)

    2. That was so adorable! Helicopters are much more fun than shaking hands!

  2. I usually approve of Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau's fashion choices. I think she's lovely. But can you send her a memo, telling her she doesn't have to borrow her hat form Snow White's huntsman. Catherine looked fantastic...and wow! on navigating those steps in heels with a toddler in her arms. MY granddaughter is just a few months younger and ....yeah.

    1. I hear you Margaret. SGT takes a lot of risks with fashion....which as to be expected some are hits and some are misses. Today was a win. The hat was a little out there...but she has done a lot worse. I can live with this hat. I expect we will see her in worse before this tour is over....

    2. I wonder if she and Maxima swap style tips!

  3. Best dress for this event! Kate's signature color and a fabulous hat. No wardrobe malfunctions either! Poor Kate will have to mind the kids while William does the speeches. Because of this, I bet we see a lot of no fuss dresses with lower hems so she can pick up Charlotte or George if they become a bit overwhelmed! I can't wait for more!!! Her hat has the maple leaf motif in blue too! LOVE IT!

  4. Nailed it ! !! Just gorgeous. The dress is beautiful for it's simplicity Love the subtle flare in the sleeves. And how does she navigate those stairs in 4 inch heels holding Charlotte on her hip and George's hand. Wow. That is no small miracle!!

George was so cute. He was about to shake hands with the Govenor General when he sees the helicopter....I can just see his little mind going..."hey...was that a helicopter...lets go see the helicopter...." So cute. And both G and C were so well behaved seeing as it was way past their bedtimes...even if they napped on the plane...still quite unsettling for them....
Just fantastic arrival. Can't wait for more!!

  5. Kate seems to have become a bit too grand. She needs to be careful that it's not about style (looks, clothes & appearance) over substance. She's also revealing a lot of Charlotte's legs and bottom by holding her under her dress in a slightly odd way.

    1. This has to be the oddest comment I have read.

    2. How do you figure?

      Delete
    3. So you are saying she's a pervert. I don't understand. And what sort of substance are you looking for? I agree with Faith - what an EXTREMELY odd comment.

    4. What? Omg .... seriously? Jane this is just inappropriate 😑 I mean I have no words to address this vile comment except DELETE

    5. No worries, ladies. Me thinks this just proves that the Cambridge's absolutely nailed it.

    6. Anon 7:01:Catherine is a Royal if she did not look grand then no point in being Royal. It's part of the job. Also, this was just a welcoming ceremony. The substance part will come in the trip too.A welcoming ceremony has its own importance.
Although I disagreed with your comment I don't find it delete worthy because it was not vulgar.

    7. Anon: 7:01 get your head out of the gutter. Jane I am surprised you post that comment. This person is saying that Kate is a pervert because Charlotte's leg is showing. Guess this person never healed a baby in a dress. She has a diaper on for god sake.
And how do you figure Kste has become to grand? Please define.

    8. Kate was maintaining a firm grip on the top of Charlotte's leg- the only way to keep her secure down those steep steps, in those heels, holding George's hand. Holding on to her through the fabric of Charlotte's dress would not have been enough if C suddenly decided to wriggle. Pro move of an experienced mom :-)

    9. Ladies, ladies, calm down. I suspect 7:01 is the same Anon who trolls over here just to make outrageous (and, quite frankly, just plain dumb) comments like this. She's done it before and she'll do it again. The best response is no response. It's just a ploy for attention.

    10. Hilarious. I can't quite put my finger on which Dickens' character you're channeling. Mrs. Gummidge? Mrs. Pardiggle? Mrs. Gamp?

He loved to parody fretful, sanctimonious meddlers who suck the joy out of life. Well done!

    11. No, I'm not a troll! Why should I be labelled a 'troll' just because I write something that you don't agree with?!

  6. Love the dress, hat, and pin (looks like Charlotte likes the pin too as she appears to be grabbing it in one photo!) I am one who is sick of nude shoes worn with everything but I think they look great here. However,  I think a matching nude clutch would have detracted from the polish of the outfit so I am glad Kate was carrying Charlotte instead.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I completely agree about the clutch and do not understand her choice to add it to the ensemble for the second half of the events. None of the other women had any type of clutch or purse and so it stuck out a bit and seemed unnecessary - I thought it looked awkward when she had to hand it off to the woman standing next to her to have free hands to lay the wreath.

      Delete
    2. I know Anon. The addition of the clutch was completely unnecessary, awkward given the wreath ceremony, and detracted from the sleek sophistication of the outfit. I admit I don't much like clutches except as evening bags so I don't understand why anyone would be wedded to that style as a usual handbag anyway. But for Kate especially...she doesn't have to carry "mad money" and RD can carry personal items....something to do with her hands is the usual reason given but I don't get it.

    3. The Queen is never without one ladies, so I think Kate can be forgiven for having a clutch when they arrived for the welcoming ceremony. :) The other ladies were "at home" so it is a little different, IMO. Frankly, I think it would have looked somewhat odd, and less formal, for her to be without one.

      Delete
    4. The Queen is in her 90s and her handbag is iconic. And quite frankly Kates clutch didn't make her look more formal - it made her look out of place especially because she chose to *add* it to her outfit. It made her look more juvenile and less confident than when she stepped off the plane.

  8. She looks amazing. The blue is brilliant. Nothing like doing up a motif in an unexpected color. I wish her shoes matched her dress, however. The nude heels take away slightly from the overall polish. The children are beyond adorable. Gorgeous family.

  10. Navigating down those stairs was quite a feat! There's such a sweet moment, when the family is walking down, that Kate looks up at William and smiles. Even in front of the waiting photographers, this seemed like a warm family moment for her. Can't wait for the rest of the trip!

  11. The lady in the red coat is Premier of BC, Christie Clark.

  12. The old white0haired guy, and the lady in olive green are our Governor-General and his wife. They are the Queen's representatives in Canada. The lady in red is Christy Clark - the Premier of the province of BC, and I do believe she has her son with her. The other lady is the Lieutenant Governor of BC - the PROVINCIAL representative of the Queen.

    1. William and Kate just tower over the Governor-General and his petite little wife! Kate is so tall to begin with and then with her heals she kept having to stoop down to hear the conversation. Tall people problems - I've never had to deal with them.

  13. Watching the live feed, it looks like Kate is having trouble with her bra strap- she keeps fiddling with her right shoulder and making an adjustment!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Of course I have no idea why Kate kept fiddling with her right arm/shoulder area. My guess is that when the maple pin was put on it wasn't noticed that it had caught on an undergarment. And so things weren't quite right and kept "pulling" If I was traveling I'd put the pin on the dress in advance and put the dress in a dress bag but I'm not sure it's done that way when the pin is borrowed from the Queen!

      Delete
    2. I'm sure the Queen's brooch is all diamonds so probably traveled in it's own pouch. Sometimes an undergarment just has a temperamental day. So annoying when that happens but to have it happen with the whole world watching would be especially difficult.

  14. I am just beside myself! I am weepy and not sure why? LOL

Such a beautiful family! Charlotte has changed much since Trooping appearance...she is gorgeous. George is just so so cute and tall! They just are so lovely the 4 of them. They must be exhausted. I suspect the children were down for the night very early.

Kate looked beautiful! Loved the blue dress. Interesting collar effect on the back? Hat was spot on!

Did anyone notice how often she seemed to be pulling or something the right sleeve or her arm? I noticed it repeatedly on the live stream!

So excited for this tour! They are truly magnifique to watch. Kate is so regal. Blubbering...sorry.... not sure why this tour has me all silly LOL

    2. Diane, I can appreciate your feelings. I, too, get emotional at times like this. It's always such a vivid reminder of how much Diana has missed out on, and I am so happy for William because he found more happiness than I could have dared to dream about for him when his mother died.

    3. Yes I think it is the Diana issue that makes me go blubbering royalfan. The what ifs and if only that had happened etc.

At any rate they were just magnifique! Stunning arrival and they just blew everyone away with that appearance and walk down the stairs. Gorgeous

  16. I watched the live coverage from the landing to their departure from the welcoming ceremony and I cannot put into words how touching it was. The Cambridge's are such an asset to the BRF. HM's best weapon, without a doubt! ;) And seeing them together as a family, made me think of Diana and how proud she would be of them. Also, the welcome they received was lovely to see. Everyone (officials and the public) was so friendly and outgoing. Just made me smile to see it all unfold.

    1. I was amazed at the crowds. For a country everyone keeps saying wants to be free of the Commonwealth status they sure turned out in droves!

    2. I'm sure Diana would be proud. I also think that she would have not bowed out gracefully to Kate nod if she were still alive there would be significant jealousy.

    3. Robin, you should have heard all if the "William!" "Kate!" "I love you" "Thank you for coming" that people were yelling out at them. There's a reason I referred to them as HM's best weapon. ;)

  17. OMG what a beautiful family. Kate was just so stunning. Love the way William walked like saying I am a very proud husband and father. Look at my family. He had this different walk, can't put my finger on it. George and Charlotte are just so cute.

I love everything, but especially the hair. It is fantastic. I too have been wondering how she manages Charlotte and heels and stairs all at once. She must practice.

  19. I've been waiting all day to get home and see the happenings from their arrival today and it certainly didn't disappoint! Kate looked gorgeous! The dress, the brooch, the hat (!), the hair - all so perfect I didn't even mind the nude shoes. Those children are absolutely adorable! Seeing that fascinating helicopter as they came off the plane was just too much excitement for little George to ignore! After all, Daddy flies those! What a wonderful family they have!

  21. I thought the whole family, and Kate in particular, looked absolutely perfect today. I don't think I've ever loved an outfit of Kate's more than I love this one. Every detail was perfect.

I watched everything from arrival to the walkabout after the welcoming ceremony. As TRH stopped to chat with people I thought how difficult it must be to hold micro-conversations with all of the strangers. They BOTH looked very comfortable with it. Well done, William and Catherine!
