Kate Adds New Event on December 14th

Monday, December 5, 2016

No sooner did Harry's tour wrap up than the Duchess of Cambridge put a new event on her calendar. I told you Harry needed to come home. Our favorite duchess is going to be joining cub scouts in King's Lynn to celebrate 100 years of the scouting program on December 14th. The Scout Association is listed under Kate's charities and she has been volunteering with them for years.

It has been a while since we have seen Kate at an official scout event. She made a surprise visit to a Beaver troop in December of 2014. The visit included
a number of activities that helped the scouts understand better what life with a disability is like.

This Cub 100 event coming up on the 14th will include a theme, too. Kensington Palace announced:
Her Royal Highness will join the Pack as they take part in games and activities themed around looking after yourself and others physically and emotionally...Activities will include a parachute game to encourage teamwork and cooperation, first aid training and cub cake icing. They will then join together to renew their Cub Scout promise and celebrate the Cubs’ 100th anniversary with the lighting of 100 candles and a rendition of happy birthday.
The cub cake decorating sounds pretty good. Kate already has some experience with cub cake icing and has probably gotten even more practice at home with George since, so I think she is ready to tackle this one.

Kate is known to volunteer and work with the scouts outside of the limelight. In 2012 she was papped out with scouts near Anglesey where the dressed down duchess (Lupo in tow) was enjoying the countryside with the kids.

She also held an outdoor party for her troop on the beach by her Anglesey home. It is common knowledge that she does a number of things with the scouts that are under the radar, so I am sure there have been events over the past two years that we have not been privy to. It would also make sense that she would be more and more involved since George is getting to the age where he can start participating and Kate has said she looks forward to having her children in scouting.

When pregnant with George, Kate stepped in for the Queen at Windsor Castle for the Matins service and National Review of the Queen's scouts.

Bear Grylls wrote at the time about Kate's activities with the scouts:
One of these 100,000 is my volunteering hero. Not only is she probably the most famous lady in the world, she is also a new mother, a wife and a duchess, with a schedule that is insanely busy. Yet still she makes time in her life to volunteer as a Cub Scout leader. She is HRH the Duchess of Cambridge.
During the time she lived in north Wales, she would help out a couple of times a term with her local Cub Scouts. She would run games, leader activities and even threw a party on the beach for the young girls and boys in her pack. Despite her travels and commitments, she still adjusted her diary to make time regularly to help young people grow and develop.
I am excited to see Kate with the scouts on the 14th and I am sure Kate's calendar will fill with more events this month.

  1. I am happy to see her out and about again. Perhaps this will calm some of the negativity. One can hope anyway.

    1. I hope so too, Tedi. It will be fun to see her with the scouts. As Jane said, she's probably done several things we don't know about!

    2. Remember how Kate was judged work shy last January when there were no announced activities?
we found out later there had been several interviews, videos, and many organisational meetings for their charities.
Not to mention two little ones at home.

    3. I remember, anon 1. My new method is to just plain ignore the Negative Nellies unless they say something that is just outright not true or willfully misunderstanding another commenter. If we ignore the nasty things then we don't fuel the fire.

    4. What Negative Nellies? All I see are positive comments

    5. There you go, Robin! Your remarks may serve as a challenge to some who may be looking for another place to roost and do their clucking. Once they've laid their egg-.bombs, they fly off to find another place to roost. Ha! Outright untrue, willful- misunderstanding comments are usually the troll remarks and are the ones meant to hijack a comment section. They are hard to ignore, but responding to them only brings the attention they seek and leads to more egg-bombs.

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to a Diplomatic Reception appearance. Gowns, tiaras-
royal family order? We usually don't see other than arrival photos, if that, but
      one can dream. :+)
Oh, well...we'll always have the arrival/departure photos from the luncheon. I enjoy seeing the extended RF members there as well as the immediate family. at the Christmas church walk.
The Scout event also coming up. Kate really shines at those, too.
William has been rushing about doing investitures, giving speeches, supporting the
charities. He has been working with employers to encourage them to recognise mental health equally with physical health.
What ever happened to the rumors of Kate taking a leading role with the All England tennis club? That was considered as coming directly from royal sources, according to one well-respected royal correspondent.
Lots of positive stuff to discuss. Plus Jane's suprise posts.

    6. Does Jane even publish "egg bombs" and troll remarks? I don't think we have to worry about these things here.

    7. LOL, anon 1! You're right! Egg bombs! :-D I had forgotten about the All England Tennis Club rumors. Maybe it will be announced in the new year? She certainly is a bright light in the royal box at Wimbledon and usually debuts something we've never seen before when she attends!

Anon 2:02 - We were remembering January of this year when there was a huge discussion about Kate being "work shy" and there were so many negative and unkind comments - not talking about this current thread where all of the comments have been positive. Yea!

Definitely looking forward to more of Jane's surprise posts! I love seeing jewelry comparisons side by side and I especially love when we look at hats!

    8. PS-another charity event-a joint one-December 19. So far, three events that week-four if their staff luncheon is that week. Then to Sandringham/Anmer when HM retires for her Winter break?

    9. I don't understand why people are bringing up past or hypothetical negative comments just to declare they will be ignored. Just needed to have someone to fight with or pick on and since everyone here was being positive you had to make someone up?!

    10. Agree anon 6:18. I'm finding the only negativity on this post coming from the posters talking about anticipated negativity. Its somewhat passive aggressive in my opinion.

  2. Thank you for this, Jane. The announcement of this activity coinciding with the end of Harry's greatly promoted tour is quite noticeable on KP twitter.

I've never doubted that Kate works quietly behind the scenes. It is an expression of her unassuming personality as well as part of RF procedure.
    The official British monarchy site
makes it clear that charity work done by royals is personal and private, according to the individual's interests and talents. Charity work is not considered a royal duty in itself. HM and Princes Phillip and possibly Charles further permit their names to appear as sponsors on numerous charities for promotional purposes as well as on Royal warrants; but these are not all considered personal charity work, including spending personal time as a volunteer, as Kate
    and others do.

    1. Regarding the end of Harry's tour... Once again, we see that that there is a method to the madness. :)

    2. Works on what? Because one engagement is announced. Devoted fan you are but you found your partner in crime:)

    3. So true, royalfan. I doubt people who understand how the royals work are feeling negative. It's just how it works. No laziness on anyone's behalf. Xxx

    4. It is depressing reading all the negative remarks. Thank goodness there is still our group who loves and supports Kate. ❤️

    5. What negative remarks are you all talking about?

    6. The tabloids and gossip sites are doing their semi-annual divorce, Kate's having twins, etc. etc. nonsense.
      Hopefully, it won't spread here.

      Delete
    7. It won't spread here. No one who really follows the BRF pays any attention to that stuff.

      Delete
    8. It hadn't so why spread it here yourself?

    9. I stopped counting the number of times of times Catherine has been reported as pregnant when it reached 23!

    10. And now they've added the "What Kate & William *really* think of Harry's new girlfriend" into the mix of made up stories. I only see the headlines because I made a commitment the day Diana died that I would never buy another tabloid as long as I live - and I haven't. I still believe that the paps were indirectly involved in that crash.

      Delete
    11. Apparently, at least some of the BRF pay attention to what the tabs and "social media" are saying. Both William and Harry have made that fact a matter of record.
It is part of their anti-bullying effort as well.

    12. Anon 9.43

I tell you why. Because some people here enjoy/thrive on calling people certain names.

    13. Anon 1, my point is that anyone on this blog who has been following Kate for years, won't go to the tabloids or gossip sites for their information, believe it, then discuss it here. Posters here are too savvy and informed for that, I think.

    14. To add to my 10:53 comment at the beginning of this thread-there is a difference also betwen private charity work and interests ( Harry's HIV international efforts;Sophie's work with eye problems; William's involvement in international conservation projects) compared to royal patronages, which involve UK-centered
efforts primarily and don't necessarily require the hands-on work that private charities do: for example, the Queen, Prince Phillip,Anne and others-who have been royals for a long time and have acquired many "name-only" patronages, but do not approach their responsibilities with the same involvement as a private, personal interest.
Patronages don't require much of the patron. Certainly, when personal visits aren't being made, security, scheduling and other considerations aren't required. It benefits the patronage having a royal listed on the letter-head as well as providing great RF PR. Win/win.
I suspect the future will involve a re-vamp of this system. WCH seem to be concentrating on efforts that involve more than "name only" status. This may be
their preference or a sign of the changing times.

  3. Today, I spotted a version of the gold, sequinned Jenny Packham gown that Kate wore to the 'Tusk' Awards evening event just after the birth of Prince George. I saw it in 'Debenhams', Oxford Street , London. Designed by Jenny Packham, £199. And there's discount available on this price, as well!

    1. One needs to be built like Kate to pull off that dress! I could never do it because I'm too short and would look like I'd had an accident at a glitter factory.

    2. Yes, I'm also (far) too short! (I am the 'anon' who saw it in the shop!)

  4. I also see the timimg of announcements a direct reflection of learning from the Diana years. The work of each member of the RF is important to each of them; no one wants a tabloid headline to derail a royal tour or another worthy charity visit. Harry's tour was an important link in keeping the Caribbean islands in the Commonwealth orbit. This is important to HM- it's a crucial part of her legacy. By all accounts, Harry did a wonderful job. The office at KP is mindful that it's popular members could overshadow the more senior royals in their public profile. It's very interesting to see the mechanics from afar. For me, I am happy to see Kate out and about in December before the long winter lull in activities.

  5. anon 4:17- that must have been fun to see! Did it have those modesty inserts under the arms as Kate's did? That wasn't my favorite, though. I prefer the lilac California and teal JP gowns.I've since the India tour added that gorgeous blue, sparkly gown.
    And some others.ha!

    1. Yes, I was quite excited to see it! It (or rather, they) did look really similar. I spotted it even before I saw the 'Jenny Packham' name. There were also some beige inserts, although not exactly like Kate's, not as prominent. More at the back, actually.

      Delete
    2. Thanks anon 5:58'I wondered if those inserts were standard or a bespoke thing. I think they ruin the design, but I understand why Kate would not have wanted to wear anything too revealing at that time.

  7. My favourite images of Kate to date are the ones taken when she is posing with newborn baby George outside the hospital. She looks so genuinely happy and natural.
