Meghan Meets Kate + Moving From Anmer + Wetherby Kensington

Sunday, January 15, 2017

It's always fun to "meet the family" but there might be some nerves, too, when the family includes the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the meeting place is Kensington Palace! This weekend, Emily Andrews is reporting that Harry introduced his girlfriend Meghan Markle to William and Kate, as well as Princess Charlotte! The Cambridges came to London and met Meghan at their cozy, Kensington Palace apartments.

According to Emily's article in the Sun
“It went really well and Meghan was very excited about meeting her.”
Harry and Meghan had just returned to London from their first romantic holiday to see the Northern Lights in Norway.
Meghan, 35, had already met Prince William two months ago at Kensington Palacewhile Kate was still at their Norfolk home Anmer Hall.
But after celebrating her 35th birthday there on Monday, she travelled down to London on Tuesday for the meeting.
Meghan Markle sounds like the perfect guest, bringing along a little hostess/birthday gift for Kate. Emily Andrews reported that the stunning actress
gifted Kate a beautifully bound "dream journal" in which Kate can jot down thoughts and keep notes.

I am very surprised to hear that the Cambridges left George in Norfolk. I wonder if they just travelled to London for the day and were home by bedtime. Of course, if it was just the day after Kate's birthday, then Grandma and Papa Middleton would have been at the house to give him special care and attention. George has had extended stays with his maternal grandparents in the past and is obviously very close to them both.

Speaking of George and school...the Sunday papers brought more interesting news. According to Camilla Tominey in the Express, the Cambridges might be switching up George's schooling. Rather than sending the little prince to the iconic Wetherby in Notting Hill, they may be planning to take advantage of a new shoot of the prestigious school. Wetherby has expanded to several locations over the years and their newest school will be opening in time for the September school session "just around the corner from Kensington Palace. "

As you can see from this handy map, "just around the corner" can be said in many ways, but the key is, it's close. What's even better, if Kate drives George to school via Queen's Gate they can roll right past some of Mummy's favorite event locations, including the Natural History Museum and Royal Albert Hall.
“The new school off Gloucester Road is preferable because it is much more intimate and less likely to attract photographers. Plus, it is just around the corner from Kensington Palace.”
The Cambridges will be high-profile enough to attract some attention, but it certainly is a more convenient location for George. It is even possible that since the school is under construction now, it will get some added security boosts to make sure the little heir to the throne is safer in an increasingly volatile 2017.

If George is going to go to Wetherby Kensington, you might well be wondering how the Cambridges will balance their country life with city commitments. That brings us to the final headline of the day, and it is from Roya Nikkhah in the Sunday Times. According to this final story, Roya reports that William has made the decision to be a full-time royal.

Interestingly, Nikkhah also says that the Cambridges considered trying to find a way to stay at Anmer, despite the fact that William will need to be in London as he takes up full-time royal duties and George will need to be in London to attend one of the Wetherby schools. Ultimately, it sounds as if they have dismissed this because it would necessitate too much time apart. As much as I wish they could remain at Anmer, where their life is more peaceful, I am very glad they won't be spending large periods of time apart. Doubtless, they determined that wasn't a good plan for their marriage or for their children and I heartily agree.

Finally, Kate has an event on the 24th of January, when we usually expect her to be slipping away to Mustique with her family. I wonder if they will give the islands another miss this year and hit the slopes instead. George really is getting to the age where I am sure Kate and William would like him in ski school. Apparently, Harry is prepping a Verbier getaway with Meghan Markle. Perhaps the Cambridges will make it a family affair?

  1. Emily Andrews is a nothing more than a gossip columnist. I highly doubt Meghan was introduced to Catherine, let alone Princess Charlotte.

I find American bloggers give way too much credence to British tabloids. Almost every story related to royalty is a fabrication.

The Sunday Times and Roya Nikkhah are different. It's a much more reputable paper and Roya does seem to have pretty good sources.

    1. Emily Andrews is about as solid as you can get, with numerous scoops. So even if she's "nothing more than a gossip columnist" she's a helluva good one.
I never understood why Kate fans are hard on Emily, she's such a good sport and so accommodating to them. Especially on tour she'll always try to answer questions on Twitter or get photos of something for you. I don't think she deserves the disparaging remarks at all.
I also think it's true because I think this is going to move VERY quickly and Harry wants a few key people to meet her before an announcement is made. I think Harry and Meghan are going to be HUGE press and pap magnets and will take some of the pressure of Wills and Kate. I think Harry and Meghan will also face their royal and public roles in a much more "let's get on with it" way, if that makes sense.
I question the diary gift, I'll concede that sounds a little corny.

Jane I'm going to do a twist on your blog for my profile name! Maybe give you an idea for a Meghan Markle blog ?!!

    2. Most of Emily Andrews so called "scoops" aren't verifiable one way or the other. Which means her stories aren't really scoops at all. Nothing more than gossip. Just because once in a blue moon a tabloid gets something right doesn't mean its rock solid. Harry in his statement about Meghan acknowledged the "very regular publication of fictional stories that are written about him"

If there is a royalty related story in either The Sun or Daily mail, it's almost certainly completely made up.

    3. Emily Andrews credibility took a hit with me after the Juliette Labelle story from last year that was blatantly swiped from Tumblr.

  2. I hope she doesn't go to Mustique! I continue to hope for a third Cambridge Jr., and I don't think the Duchess would risk going to an area with Zika activity until she is definitively done having children. Skipping Mustique last year and (hopefully) again this year allows me to hope that the Cambridges are not totally and completely against having any more children.

    1. Why, with her history of HG, would she choose to get pregnant before Pippa's wedding? If you are really wondering about this, I'd suggest checking if they have any foreign tours scheduled for 2017.

  3. Such exciting news, all round!!! SO happy for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and the whole royal family who will surely benefit from this kind and intelligent addition - hopefully a permanent one! I can't wait to see Harry and Meghan together, and the Cambridges too! They will have such fun, it seems that Meghan is very grounded and sweet, and Kate can give her insider tips on handling being a new royal. Such a great match on every level! Fingers crossed. Also - exciting that William is full-time now, and the family is moving to London! A whole new chapter in their lives, the children's lives, and all of ours. Happy new year, we're off to a cracking start! ;)

  4. I suspect the move is a go not sure about the other information in the article:) One note i would not find it odd for George to be left at home. William and Kate may have wanted some one on one time with Charlotte. Charlotte might have had a pediatrician visit. George might have been unwell or had a playdate etc.

  5. I'm suspect of the story about Kate making a special trip to London just to meet Meghan and even more skeptical of the gift of a diary. How would anybody know these things? Unless someone in the Markle camp it leaking things I think this story is one of the typical "slow news day so let's make things up" stories. In the past two days I've heard that Harry & Meghan just returned from a ski vacation in Switzerland, from seeing the Northern Lights (which I think was supposed to have happened a couple of weeks ago), that they've broken off, and now this. Poor Harry. Chelsy gave an interview last year where she finally talked about her relationship with Harry (I think she really was his true love and we know that didn't work out well in the Charles/Camilla/Diana situation. I would hate for history to repeat itself.) and she said that the intrusiveness of the media is what ended the relationship. She did it for close to seven years and there were times that she just couldn't deal with it and had to flee to Africa to catch her breath. Harry doesn't have the blessing of a protected four years at university to get to know someone like William and Kate had. It would be nice if the media just left him alone when it comes to his personal life.

We pretty much knew William would not renew his contract with the air ambulance company and has nearly said so on a couple of occasions so that I can certainly believe. The part about them trying to find a way to stay at Amner has to be pure speculation and I'm guessing that, if they even thought of it, the thought lasted 10 seconds.

Since it was already reported that George would most likely be attending Wetherby it only makes good sense that he would attend the Kensington location and I think your assessment of the possibility for extra security to be built in, knowing they would have a royal student, is spot on, Jane. I think the media will still camp out on the doorstep for photos.

I concur with the poster above in that I would hope Kate would stay away from any areas where the Zika virus is still in play. Even if they haven't decided on adding another child to the family it's best to be careful just in case. I wonder if the whole family is skipping it this year because of Pippa's wedding. Come to think of it, now that Pippa is engaged to be married and hopefully adding some cousins to the mix, she should stay away from Zika areas too!

    1. I don't think she went to London to specifically meet Meghan. They were in London for events. William had one on the 10th and both he and Catherine had on the 11th. Meghan was in London for the week apparently.
If Meghan and Harry do tie the knot, they will probably start a family. If we think William is protective of his offspring, I think Harry will be equally if not more so. Also with his children not been direct heirs, he has very little obligation to parade them to the media.

      Delete
    2. Robin, I suspect stories that claim William has suddenly and uni-laterally decided to be a "full-time royal" for several reasons-not the least being William has specifically stated that the BRF does not use that term. Senior royal is the term he said is used. Full-time royal is a creation of the media so that irresponsible comparisons can be made. Since no royal's day includes the exact efforts and influence of another's, a comparison is not really logical. Add to that the fact that, with all the touting of full-time status, no one has actually defined what that term means.
However, whatever gets the clicks and keeps the readers happy.

      Delete
    3. So true, anon 1. I do believe that he and Kate are heading directly into Senior status. His air ambulance contract is up and HMTQ and PP are both turning over many of their patronages to the younger generation. I think we will see more and more of this over the next several months and William will step up and do his duty.

Anon 7:05 - The rule is that anyone directly in line to the throne within the first six are still required to function at HM behest and Harry's offspring are included. Harry is #5 and his first child will be #6. After HM passes they all move up a notch. The only thing that can push them farther down the chain would be for William and Kate to have more children. As it stands the succession within six is Charles, William, George, Charlotte, Harry, and Beatrice York. They all require the Queen's permission to marry. Many feathers have been ruffled by this in the past and I can only imagine it could happen again in the future.

  6. Regarding the day-trip to London to meet Meghan, would George not have been back in school? Maybe they wanted that structure for him and not to pull him out for a day. Grandparents or Maria may have taken care of George. W&K frequently do day trips from London to Norfolk, so I think that is a plausible theory.

Wherever they go for their family vacation, I hope we get photos! It would be fun if Sophie/Thomas and Harry/Meghan were all together for a ski trip with the Cambridges! Maybe I can write that down in my dream journal ;-) hehe

  7. I'm not so sure about some of this. However, it would make sense for the timing to be correct on Wills becoming full-time and them moving back to London for PG's schooling. I believe his contract with East Anglia is up soon and I don't see him renewing it. Between that and PG's schooling it only makes sense for them to move back to London. I was hoping for baby # 3 but unfortunately it doesn't look as if it will happen. Maybe with her suffering from HG they decided to stop with only 2 children. I find it odd that all of the Queen's children stopped with only 2 each, never only 1 or 3 or more. Just an heir and spare? I don't blame Kate stopping with 2 but the others? They say HG can get worse with each pregnancy. I do wonder why she's never spoken about it though? She'd be the perfect spokes model for it. I'd certainly not heard of it before she was diagnosed with having..It also doesn't sound right that they'd be there with PC leaving PG in Norfolk but who knows?!? Although mother daughter time is just as important, maybe they wouldn't be back before school Monday? They tend to do this a lot when there is NO NEWS.. IE All the what is the Royal Family's last name stories floating about..

I've always secretly hoped Harry and Chelsy would get back together. The idea of a British royal marrying an American actress just seems so...cliche. (And I say that as an American who is involved in theater, lol)

  9. I hope it's not true (the meeting) as that means the relationship is progressing quickly? For whatever it's worth I was hoping Harry would find someone like Kate-someone who treasures privacy, reserved etc. and who wouldn't dream of having an Instagram account with sexy selfies. I think I can't see this ending well.

    1. I don't know about that. She's said repeatedly her main interest in fame is that it allows her to do her charity work. That's why the story took off, as soon as people read past the first paragraph of her as an actress they realized she was likely perfect for Harry.
She and Harry will be a global phenomenon, very active out of the gate with high profile charities.
She understands the spotlight helps their causes.

      Delete
    2. Charity is one thing. I don't think she fits the profile of a representative of the BRF. Life in the royal family has its restrictions and from what I can judge Meghan will have a particularly hard time adjusting. May be she won't accept a royal title and still marry Harry. That would suit her more may be.

      Delete
    3. Other royal families have swallowed the bile and accepted brides of checkered pasts. BRF? I don't know how much more checkered you can get than carrying on an extra-marital affair with the heir. Margaret was actually my favorite at the time- I was probably too young to realise her party girl reputation. The only relevant difference I can see is Harry's girl is a bit of an extrovert (so is he) and seems to flaunt her royal connection. A good PR team plus Scotland Yard could properly advise her and do damage control. I think, all in all, they are a good match. Besides, Harry isn't married with children and Meghan seems to be exclusive to Harry. It could be and has been a lot worse.

      Delete
    4. It has been worse I agree. Well hopefully whatever happens happens for the better.

      Delete
    5. How in the heck does Meghan have a checkered past? Because she's an actress? She's no Kim Kardashian with a sex tape running around. She's on a TV show, for Pete's sake.

Milania Trump has nude pictures taken with another woman which were published all over (meaning people can't deny knowing about them) and no one bated an eye.

I am not aware of anything that Meghan has done even remotely similar. No checkered past here.

  13. I cant help wondering why the Meghan hysteria. I sincerely hope that Harry finds happiness, but aparently the Queen feels that her father died prematurely due to an American divorcee. Her son Andrew was not allowed, or chose not pursue a relationship with an American actress (Koo Stark). Personally I think that the whole mixed race thing is a none issue but others may disagree.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Koo Stark turned out pretty well, in the long run. She may have been a better wife and mother than the person Andrew did marry in the end, although she had financial problems similar to those of Andrew's ex. Meghan's race is not a factor for me, but maybe the British tabloids said offensive things that wouldn't have been tolerated in North America.
And she wouldn't be the first person of known African origin to marry into a reigning European dynasty. Look up Princess Angela of Liechtenstein.

  14. I had HG with both of my pregnancies and it was horrific. I was actually not as bad with my 2nd child but the problems came during birth. I wouldn't wish HG on anyone, the hospitalisation is the worst thing about HG. I love the Cambridges and the Meghan & Harry relationship is brilliant. I know people say this all the time but I think the way that the late great Princess Diana brought up both of the boys by showing them that there is life beyond the palace walls is a testament to this.

  15. William; Catherine and Harry have an engagement on Wed (17th)when they will speak about the future of Heads Together.the DofC had engagements both Tuesday and Wed last week and the Duchess had 2 on the Wed., so it is reasonable to suppose they were at Kensington Palace on the Tues. If George had Nursery on these days, it would be reasonable to leave him with Nanny for one night.
We can have no way of knowing if the story built around this is true or not; time will tell.
Miss Markle seems very nice, but her half-siblings talk too much. I wish the media would leave them alone until they are sure that their relationship is for long-term.

  16. I, also, am not quite sure if I can jump on the Meghan bandwagon just yet. I have so many questions about what her reality would be were she to become a royal...like, would she even be considered a royal? Would she have to give up her acting career? Would her family be welcomed into Harry's family as the Middleton's were? Some of these things don't seem plausible to me. On the other hand, I'm quite sure that Harry must be confident that all this could happen or he wouldn't have allowed himself to fall so head over heels. I do so want Harry to find happiness but, on some level, I was hoping for another version of "Kate" for him. Is Meghan that caliber of person?

    1. Look at Meghan's resume. Look at her work with the UN. Is Kate that caliber of a person? I think Kate has many good qualities of course, I'm just turning the question around on you. Let them each bring their own strengths to the table, no need to start an "us vs them"

    2. Well if she marries a prince I'm not sure how she could not be considered a royal.

    3. Great point, Anon 10:07! Harry and Wills are very different people with very different futures ahead of them. It makes perfect sense that they'd find partners that bring different strengths to the royal family - and there's every reason to think that that will only make them stronger, both as a private family and as members of the firm.

      Delete
    4. "...would she even be considered a royal?"

      WHAT?!?!

Let's have a realty check here. Kate's family was NOT welcome in William's circles. Carole (who I adore) was born and raised in public housing. Her boot strap business tale, while respected here in the US, is not seen the same way in Britain. Kate's "royal" because she married into it, as Meghan would too.

Honestly, Laura, it is comments like yours that leave a bad taste in people's mouths, especially Harry's.

And FYI - it would be "Middletons" as used in your post not "Middleton's". There is no possessive. I'm not royal or anything, but I do know my English.

    5. I just want Chelsy back with Harry. They seemed a perfect match, she loves Africa, she's very bright, they've had a chance to grow up a bit beyond those younger years of dating and the family already loves her. Harry! Go get her!

I couldn't agree more. Strong teams have a variety of skill sets. I think Meghan definitely has some skills that could be a huge asset to the W, K and H trio. Laura in NY....I would agree the reality of being a royal would require some sacrifices the biggest of which is her freedom to choose what she wants to do with her life. If she was to marry into the Royal family her options in life would be rather narrowed from what she has today. But Kate felt that sacrifice was worth it for W.....Meghan may come to feel the same about H. I am secretly cheering for whatever will bring Harry happiness!

  18. I find Meghan to be delightful! She seems grounded and worldly, and the essays I've read from her have given me a very high opinion of her intelligence and insight. I love that Harry found someone who already loves humanitarian work and Africa, among other shared interests (he seems to feel the same). It's also helpful that she's faced media scrutiny on her own before this relationship - and she's already found a way to turn it into a positive for herself.

Undoubtedly she's having to consider giving up acting, which would be a difficult decision. However, even a beautiful, youthful 35-year-old faces increasing challenges getting roles in Hollywood as she ages, so she may not feel that it's so much of a sacrifice. Obviously they'll make the best choice for themselves, but personally, I'm rooting for them to be together.

  19. I agree with many posters here in regards to Meghan. There is something about her that just doesn't sit well with me either. I didn't like her almost boasting/hinting instagram photos when she first started dating Harry. I thought that tacky, classless, attention seeking and not the caliber of person directly associated with the British Royal Family. I think Meghan is intelligent and very savvy woman who just couldn't wait for the world to know of her good luck. They call Kate and her mother social climbers but Meghan's actions certainly smack of it too. I have no issue with people and women trying to improve their stations in life but trying to gain celebrity from it it poor form. If charity work was her first and most prominant goal in life, that can be done quietly behind the scenes without gratiation. I believe she likes being a celebrity and all it entails, and I don't think this mixs well with being a royal.

    1. She already is a celebrity in her own right and not simply through her romantic connection to Harry. And it is entirely possible that charity work *is* important to Meghan but she must balance that with other goals and necessities such as pursuing her chosen profession and providing herself with income. Furthermore, it is her celebrity status that allows her to bring attention to some of her charitable causes in a way that she would not be able to if she were merely a non-celebrity private citizen.

      Delete
    2. Thanks KiwiNic - Meghan shouldn't complain about media intrusion when she was so obviously courting it on Instagram last year. Harry, William and Catherine have been able to evade the media in their private lives on occasion, so advice about how to do that was certainly available to her, had she really wanted it.
That behavior is what causes me to wonder if she has the emotional stability needed for the long haul with Harry.
I want Harry to settle down and be happy too, and if Meghan can manage the media as Catherine has, maybe there is a chance. She should take Princess Anne and Sophie Wessex as role models, if she is willing to change.

  20. I think this "move" to London (I call it splitting time between two homes "as appropriate"...just like other royals) is simply the natural progression of their roles in the Firm. The rest of it is filler to sell papers. For example, I sincerely doubt that Kate traveled to KP to meet Meghan, but if the opportunity was there (ie..Harry being KP at the same time), it makes sense that he would want to introduce his girlfriend to a woman with whom he appears to enjoy a brother/sister relationship.

  24. I can see where the skepticism about Meghan comes from, and it makes sense - she is very different from what we've seen of the BRF in the past. That said, I'm choosing to be supportive and I think I'll probably end up a fan. Her style is closer to mine than Kate's is, she has been committed to charity work for years, and her experience managing fame and the press could mean that she's more open - and that could be really fun for fans! I'm optimistic!

  25. I thought it was just a matter of time until difficulties arise with W&K living at Anmer, which is quite out of the way. Moving to London means we will see more of them, and that can’t be a bad thing :)
In all fairness, W&K have been accommodated throughout the years to ensure they have some privacy. But understandably that can’t last forever.

    1. If the Cambridges have been accommodated to ensure their privacy the Cornwalls have been indulged. We have seen pap photos from Norfolk and Berkshire of scenes everywhere from on the beach with Granny to at a playground with Mummy to grocery shopping with Kate. In all this time have we seen one single pap photo of Charles and|or Camilla anywhere with anybody? No photos of "Cams" with her grandchildren; no photos of her grocery shopping-if she does those sorts of normal activities.

Debate is welcome, direct and personal insults are not. Topics we tend to avoid here: "does Kate work enough?" and "Is Kate too skinny?" Everything is subject to approval.
