The Cambridges' Thank-You/Christmas Card

Thursday, January 5, 2017

The Cambridges didn't release a Christmas photo this year (photo-call at St. Mark's excepted, of course) but their office at Kensington Palace is nothing if not impeccably polite. Those among us who were organized enough to send the little family the season's greetings received a response card, which by all accounts, is hitting a mailbox near you right around now. Several fans have been good enough to share their royal mail on Twitter for those of us who dropped the ball. Here is a snap from Tina.

The couple didn't have a new photo taken for the card, but chose from the available images snapped at the children's party in Canada. I like this one a lot because George and Charlotte have such innocent and genuine expressions of interest. The choice of the photo also underscores the moment the Cambridges clearly saw as their public highlight of 2016.

In other news, the Duke and Duchess reportedly traveled to Sandringham last week to visit the Queen. Although HM has yet to appear in public since she caught a nasty cold before Christmas, all accounts report the monarch is recovering well.

  1. I'm happy to see the photo and just look at the expression on Charlotte's face! Adorable.

And I hope that the Cambridge's enjoyed their holiday visit to Sandringham. Hopefully, this will alleviate some of the concern expressed over their absence. :)

  2. Lovely picture; no one watching the camera and the children seem fascinated.

  3. Anyone know what address we would use to send a card to the Cambridges in hopes of receiving one of these in return?

    3. Their office is now at KP, correct? Clarence House was when W&H shared an office with their Dad.

    4. Oh you're welcome.
I wrote several times to different royals, and got every time a reply, exept sweden, they don't often send cards back :-)
Oh yes, it makes fun and every day when I come home from work I am very exited if I got a postcard back. From christmas 2016 I received so far from Monaco and from Duke & Duchess of Cambridge back, and I hope from the other ones I will also get a reply.

    6. 01:31- the address is correct, I believe. Some time ago I wrote about CH (Charles) being a clearing house for all correspondence between the public and his wife, sons, and Catherine. Part of this might be related to funding under the Duchy of Cornwall.
I imagine a bit of the PR goes through there also.

    7. I'm sorry but the above address mentioned is not exactly correct. Although you'd probably eventually get a reply bc Clarence House was for years the correct address for all 3 of the Prince's. To write or send cards to Prince William, Kate,PG, PC, and Prince Harry it's
      Kensington Palace
      London
      W8 4PU

For HM,DoE, Princess Anne, Duke of York, and pretty much every other Royal Family Member...
      Buckingham Palace
      London
      SW1 1AA

      For Prince Charles and Camilla
      Clarence House
      London
      SW1A 1BA

Jane, I'm glad to see you've written to them as well.. I've written the info several times in the comments but have never gone back to look if it had been published or not.. To mail the normal size card or letter it's $1.16 (it may only be $1.15) or 3 forever stamps which add up to be well over the amount either way. You don't have to have the $1.15 or $1.16 International stamp but it will save you a few cents if you'll be buying the stamps anyway. I've done it both ways. All of this info is for those of us in the US that love the Duchess from afar.. I wonder if it would be the same for Canada or New Zealand for instance? It is quite the treat to see what they'll send back. I just got mine back as well!! Can't wait to see what picture they'll use for her bday response this year!!! Happy writing y'all!!

PS. There are several articles on how to write a letter to someone in the Royal Family. For instance you wouldn't start it out "I'm writing to wish you a Merry Christmas" or " I'm writing to express". The how to's are extremely helpful!!!

  5. Oh I do love this photo! I agree with RobinfromCa - I too can see why this photo was taken. The children are so adorable and look so natural. I love that no one is looking at the camera and that it isn't staged at all. The Children's party was my favourite engagement from the Canada 2016 tour. I was one of the minority who absolutely loved Kate's outfit. Hopefully we get to see more of the family this year!

  6. So how would that work exactly? KP purchases cards from Mr. Edwards? He donates them? Or--?

    1. Most likely he either gifted them the photo rights for this pic, or they purchased them.

    2. Ownership of the photos could also have been part of his contract for the event. He may have never owned any image he took at the party.

    2. I have recently been made aware of this and I am over the top with Honor , when asked to be present at the party it was simply an a amazing and surreal experience , then I met the family and I was awestruck how lovely they were , the Butterflies settled and I did what I do ,entertain families , However never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would make a Greeting card... Humbly Yours .. Paul Kilshaw ( balloon artist and magician )

    5. royalfan-wouldn't it be great if the next time someone expounds on Kate's snubbing someone or William's not being a real employee, they could pop in and say, "actually..." Absolutely fantastic to hear from Paul and realise the range of Jane's readers. This forum often seems a little coffee klatchy or women's circle-ish. A male viewpoint is a welcome addition.

    1. This is a thank-you, acknowledgment card - not a Christmas card in the traditional sense. I don't believe the Cambridges have ever sent out "Christmas cards" per se.

    3. Faith - Google Meghan Markle Kamik and you'll see a ton of images and a Vogue blurb. Also just noticed someone started "What Meghan Wore" on Twitter!

    1. Was that part of a sponsored story? I read a headline elsewhere that said she "dropped two dress sizes." Which is about ten pounds, I believe. The highest recommended weight loss per week is 1-2 pounds, I think.
      It is the DM, however.

Great expressions, I can see why they chose this photograph. George is front and centre and I can't help but see the layout as a symbol of the family dynamic. Kate and Charlotte are on the side lines. I know that's how the royal family works but this is a very stark pictorial representation of it.

  17. No offense, but I certainly would NOT call this their Christmas card. It's a very basic way to thank the masses for them sending holiday cheer. I am sure their Christmas card and picture were much different.

I might be late to the party on this one, but as a FYI, on IG (@chrisjacksongetty) Getty's royal photog has a great account. And his fiancee just happens to be Kate's personal assistant, who many on here will recognize, Natasha. He posts a few pictures of her too. I noticed that she has several pieces of clothing/accessories that we have seen on Kate before. I wondered if they were gifts from Kate or hand-me-downs. (Diana was known to give things away. And the pieces are expensive, which made me think they might be from Kate.) Just fun to look at his account. They are a very adorable couple. It also looks like she has taken up quite the fitness streak, lost a few pounds (not that she needed to) and is really very toned and fit now. I'm sure working along Kate influenced that. Wanted to share in case anyone was interested!

  18. Agree it is not their Christmas card, but all the press is running with that story. It is a photo included with a standard thank you note, the photo maybe used for the whole year (or 3 -4 months) with notes adjusted for the season in their wording:)

  19. Got the same thank you card for Easter
