If Duchess Kate Attended the Oscars...

Sunday, February 26, 2017

I am supposed to be working on a homework assignment, but I am keeping a surreptitious eye on the Oscars and the stunning red carpet display. I can't help but see my favorites and wonder how Kate would look wearing these gorgeous gowns. So, here is my question...what red carpet dress would you most love to see Kate wear? Let me know here or on Instagram and we will tally it up for tomorrow's  on the UK-India post. I'll tell you already that I am in love with the dress Taraji Henson is wearing. It reminds me of the evening gown Princess Diana wore to the White House...and it has one of Kate's favorite features, a front slit! Happy fashion watching!

  1. I would choose the royal blue sari inspired beaded gown the duchess wore to the glittering Bollywood Gaka.

    Hailee Steinfeld's dress. Perfection.

  3. I can definitely see her in the dress viola davis is wearing, it's a variation of what kate has worn in the recent past.

  4. Gosh this is tough, I love the gowns worn by Taraji, Michelle Williams and Emma Stone, but I think I'd like to see her in Olivia Culpo's dress. (And just an aside what the heck was Dakota Johnson thinking, that front bow thing looks like one of those fancy folded napkins.) Anyway my vote is for Olivia.

    1. Oh no, I just saw the dress Cynthia Erivo is wearing, absolutely smashing (and Kate seems to like bold prints). I think Olivia's is still number one, but Cynthia's is a very close second.

  5. The gown John Legend's wife is wearing. I was just watching the red carpet intermittently, too. I may have missed a few, but I especially remember that one. What a fun idea, Jane! so glad you were playing hooky and that I checked in again and saw it..anon1

    1. Whoopsie! Just noticed the leg-baring. Maybe a bit of a stich-up. Also, Isabelle Huppert's gown. I hope I spelled that correctly.

  6. Ginnifer Goodwin's dress is winning for me tonight. Kate would modify the neckline but she'd be gorgeous!

  7. So many beautiful dresses. Viola Davis (red) , Kerri Higuchi (white w/embroidery) , Jessica Biel (gold), Hailee Seinfeld (white/lavender?), Sofia Carson (white w/embroidery). Some of these I'm sure she would alter, but I think they would look gorgeous on her.

  8. Octavia Spencer's Marchesa dress, with the Cambridge Lovers Knot Tiara, and the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace; for a state banquet outfit.

  9. The gown Emma Stone wore, she is one of my favourite actresses ever! She so deserved to win, and I also thought her film La La Land should have deserved an oscar... well, here's to Miss Universe fail 2.0 ;)

  10. I didn't particularly care for most of the Oscar dresses. I liked the dresses for the Vanity Fair party much better: Alicia Vikander's green gown was gorgeous; Leslie Mann's nude with gold embellishments gown was stunning; Ruth Negga's white with color blotches gown was stunning; I loved Viola Davis' white pant suit, but not the shoes; and Kiersey Clemons's white gown was gorgeous, too. I'd love to see Kate wear any of those gowns/suits.

  11. I would love to see her in Emma Stone's dress - something different for Kate but totally elegant!

  12. Kirsten Dunst's beautiful ball gown by Dior, Viola Davis's stunning red gown, Taraji Henson's with an adjustment on the slit, and Nicole Kidman's gold gown.

  13. I think she'd look gorgeous in the Louis Vuitton dress that Alicia Vikander wore - so feminine! Their figures are similar. Also what about the aqua/green tulle dress that Kate Bosworth wore to the Vanity Fair after party - princess perfect!

  14. Totally agree with the comment above- what fun, Jane! Yes, the Henson violet-blue velvet with thigh high slit also made me remember Princess Diana dancing with John Travolta. What a gorgeous color and dress it would be on the Duchess (with the tanzanite jewelry?). Catherine would also rock the delicate black lace tiers of the Vikander gown (paired with the Halo tiara and her wedding earrings?).

  15. Honestly this year was such a fashion bore in regards to the women's gowns IMO. This years best dressed goes to most of the men! They looked spectacular and really on point. Way to go guys! If Duchess Catherine were to have worn one of the gowns though .... Joanna Natasegara's gown would have been my choice for her. The Duchess loves purple and that flowing style would be radiant on her, just as it was on Joanna.

  16. The dresses I see Catherine wear are the ones from:
    - Viola Davis
    - Isabelle Huppert (in a way the Erdem is a short version of this one)
    - Kirsten Dunst
    - Taraji Henson
    - Brie Larson

  17. I think this post-party dress on Olivia Munn would be right in Kate's wheelhouse - meets royal appropriateness standards, suits her slim figure (as much as I love Taraji's dress, Kate doesn't have the curves to pull that one off) and has that late 70s/early 80s vibe she loves so much. Kate would probably go for a more subdued colour, though http://www.gofugyourself.com/photos/oscars-2017-the-final-reckoning/2017-vanity-fair-oscar-party-hosted-by-graydon-carter-arrivals-78

  18. I love Hailee Seinfeld knocked it out of the park in her Oscar dress and the after party too!! Taraji looked gorgeous.. But most picks were from the after party like Alessandra Ambrosia, Michelle Dockery, and Jessica Oyelowo... I realize I'm late and haven't read the next post yet!!
