Rebecca Deacon's Wedding + Kate Shopping Anita Dongre

Monday, March 27, 2017

Yesterday, Rebecca Deacon and Adam Priestley tied the knot as it was rumored they would, at the Chapel Royal. Not many pictures have surfaced, but a few have been shared on social media. Kate's right-hand girl looked absolutely radiant seated in a vintage car after the ceremony in this snap shared by @Trabbitsgal on Instagram:

We talked about whether or not William and Kate would attend. I really thought they would, and they might have, but we haven't gotten any pictures that include the royal couple. Although guests may have been asked to stay discreet, my general rule is that if they were at the party, that would come out sooner rather than later. It has only been 24 hours or so, but since I haven't heard a whisper of their presence, I think it is reasonable to conclude they likely were not there. Here is a shot of the back of Rebecca's dress. For a moment I thought the little blond boy on the left side of the frame might be George, and then I decided he looks a little too small to be George.

@trabbitsgal
There was speculation before the wedding that Kate had been shopping for a dress for the big day. Kirin Ali, a young woman on Instagram, shared pictures of herself wearing an Anita Dongre gown. According to the ladies at WWKD and The Royals & I, Kate had tried this dress (below) on just before Ms. Ali did and that Anita Dongre reported that Kate decided not to buy it because it was "too red carpet" for the dinner she needed the dress for.

Kirin Ali Instagram

So, apparently Kate is looking to return to Anita Dongre for an upcoming event. To refresh your memory, Kate debuted Anita Dongre on her tour of India and Bhutan. The Gulrukh Tunic dress was by the Mumbai-based designer and was one of Kate's most popular dresses of the tour, I think.

From the description, it sounds like Kate was shopping for a specific event. Assuming it is a public event, she could be planning to wear Anita Dongre tomorrow to the National Portrait Gallery's Portrait Gala, which would require an evening gown, but perhaps without the full glitz of the red carpet look. Obviously, it could be for an event that hasn't been announced yet; an event that won't be announced (like that private Royal Foundation party); or for a private party in Kate's personal social set. No matter when or where, it is interesting to see her returning to the Indian label. One more look at the dress she tried on in motion:

Too bad she decided against it; it would look great on her. See more pictures of Rebecca at the Daily Mail here. Thanks to everyone who messaged me about this and shot me links and the like! See you tomorrow!!

P.S. Several of you asked about blogging in the questionnaire. The answer is YES. Shoot me an email!

  1. I'm so happy for Rebecca!
    Thanks for sharing :)

Maybe Catherine did attend but they stayed inside the Chapel to prevent stealing the limelight (at least that is what I like to think):)

    1. I was thinking the same thing. Kate stayed away from the cameras so she wouldn't upstage her friend on her wedding day. I love her bouquet. Is it odd to get married on a Monday?

    2. I think they got married on Sunday...

  2. Rebecca and Adam looked so happy!! I'm very happy she has found love and best wishes to them! I even love the detail of the flowers in the car behind her in the first shot - so elegant and classy. From a fashion perspective, I'm surprised her shoulders weren't more covered for an English church wedding; however, no judgment!

I would be disappointed if even Kate didn't attend - my longtime boss attended my wedding, and W&K would work in such a close and intimate capacity with her. Mind you, Kate has missed so many weddings. And if William can get time off work for all his friend's weddings he could for hers. I'd like to be optimistic regarding their attendance, but we usually get the car photos from places, and with the paps there something should have surfaced.

    1. I feel the need to specify that I never expected them to attend her wedding reception, but I really though they would attend her ceremony to show appreciation for all she has done. Also, to wish her well in her new phase of life.

    2. I've been curious as to why Kate has not attended several weddings since her own wedding. I wonder if it is because she does not want to take attention away from the couple getting married? Perhaps also due to pregnancy and related health issues?

      Delete
    3. Jay, I am not sure (because we haven't been told! lol). It boggles my mind. Whether she attends or doesn't attend photos of the happy bride & groom always make the news, too - it doesn't completely still the show. Even if just William goes there is still the paparazzi. So while Kate would definitely create more buzz, I don't think it's enough to warrant the number of weddings has missed. I think there are other factors we're not privy too.

    5. I think Kate missed some weddings because W&K decided, as a couple, that he would represent them while she opted to stay home with the little one(s).

Here, it is possible that W&K were in the chapel and left after the ceremony. Somehow, I cannot imagine them at the reception and I do believe there would have been a "limelight issue". Or perhaps security was a concern after the terrorist attack. Who knows, but I doubt the wedding would have taken place at the Chapel Royal without their blessing.

    6. Agree, royalfan. Actually, after seeing the level of security last night at the NPG, I doubt they could have quietly arrived and departed without being noticed, considering the number of vehicles involved in her movements. Especially if William went along.I am fairly certain the place was staked out by paps and camera phones, on the look-out for Kate. A river approach?---- I also think there is a real possibility Rebecca will receive no bills for the reception. Her Mum is a cleric and I doubt she could foot the bill. Apparently royal staff work more for the honor and prestige than a hefty paycheck. -----Does her upper lip look different? Am I imagining some swelling there as well as a lumpy area on her forehead? Has anyone seen a view of the front of the dress-it is completely covered by the bouquet held up quite high, even in the standing photo. The back view is gorgeous and looks a little like the Aimee Temperly.

    7. Perhaps one reason (of many) for Kate's absence at several weddings could be that she simply does not like to attend them. I'm not finding fault here. The ceremonies can be long. If you are not close to the couple (this obviously does not apply in Rebecca's case), weddings can also be utterly boring.

    9. A possibilty, Jay. If you're not close with someone, I see nothing wrong with the choices the Cambridge's have made.

Anon 1, yes, it would have been an entourage with a capital E. No doubt.

Imagine being in the bride's shoes given the terrorist attack in London. A good dose of added stress!

And I too noticed a difference in her appearance...

    10. I suppose Will could have paid for the reception Anon 1 although I think it's also possible RD's husband and RD herself contributed. (And we know a family member did the wedding flowers) I don't think it's all that usual these days to expect the parents/parent of the bride to carry all the costs especially when the bride has been out on her own for years. (I agree with you she likely didn't earn much working for the RF)  But didn't you post just a few weeks ago you thought RD essentially had been fired by the Cambridges?  Quite the severance package if the reception was included!

I think RD looks very pretty but other than being made up and having styled hair (things that have been lacking sometimes on the job) she doesn't look different to me. But I've not always been able to spot the signs others see that Kate has had botox or fillers either.

    12. I've read incidentally in another story that the palace announcement indicated that her private secretary days were over as of the announcement or January, as I think I read, and that she would remain "with the household" ( a rather strange phrase, perhaps meaning on the payroll) until sometime in the summer. I have amended my opinion somewhat-it may have a been mutual decision. It was a job that can take its toll, especially with probable low pay. I don't wear hats these days, but I will think of some penance if Rebecca shows up during the Luxembourg trip, or any other future official engagement. Possibly an anonymous will chastise me. Ja!.-----The reception venue seemed like part of the St. James package to me. Extremely pricey, too. She was too young to be pensioned off. I think the gift of a lovely reception would be reasonable in the circles the royals are in. It is not unheard of for a long-term employer to throw an employee a parting reception...and ten years is long-term in today's standards. ----Sophie is still referred to as " Rebecca's assistant" by a blogger or two, but I think it is accepted by most that Sophie is the new girl in town. I really appreciate that she stays well-back. Rebecca was literally at Kate's shoulder and in all close up photos when she started. Kate actually looked slightly annoyed at her at times. Fortunately someone told the assistant to back off. There was no real talk of Sophie being Rebecca's assistant until shortly before the announcement. I am not aware of any official recognition of that title. ( I have to admit that I resisted RD's personal secretary title also- of course, I could be wrong here, too) The assumption may have come about as Rebecca was walking Sophie through her future role. I think (hope) there may actually be an appointment of a separate private secretary, apart from Sophie, who may take on more of a LIW role, as she has the last two engagements.---Wow! I have noticed that some people seem to be filing away my comments for future reference lately. I hope the annonymouses recognise that wouldn't be possible if I didn't own each and every one of my comments.

      Delete
    13. Thanks for the additional info Anon 1. (I remember what you said because we exchanged comments about RD’s status at the time.)

I had not assumed that the cost of the reception and the reception venue was somehow attached to using that chapel but maybe it was. I am familiar with receptions for retirees or other long term employees (10 yrs seems on the short end of “long-term” to me but might fit) But usually those involve inviting people who work for the company/employer and the retiree's spouse/partner if one exists perhaps along with an extra guest list of the retiree’s other family members and close friends, not an entire guest list separate from the company. And by severance, I meant pure severance in the American sense---not a pension. I do expect RD will work somewhere else in the not too distant future. Whatever advantage having worked for the RF entails for future employment could get stale.

      Delete
    14. Aren't severance packages usually given to those leaving at the company's invitation as compensation?

      Delete
    15. Yes but assuming she was kind of asked to leave but also kind of "volunteered" (in other words a mutual decision) I could see severance being given there too.

    16. It's possible Kate attended the wedding. I remember she attended her cousin Adam's wedding although there were no pictures. Also, I think there's drama being created here re: RD leaving. It honestly looks like she and Kate have a great relationship but she was ready to move on from her role for whatever reason - personal or professional. She's been with Kate for six years which is a long time to stay in one job when your her age. Most people her age work for a few years in a job and move on. It's just life.

      Delete
    17. I'm surprised by all the negative comments about Rebecca from how she dressed to how she did her job. I can honestly say I never saw a photo where I thought Kate looked annoyed that Rebecca was standing too close to her and huge frankly if Rebecca was especially close by in the beginning it might have been because Kate was still somewhat unsure of how to handle her own role in those early days. I'm also not sure why people are assuming she was "let go" - it can't be an easy job and it doesn't surprise me at all that someone Rebecca's age might get to the point that she wants a position that fits into her own life rather than a position that entirely revolves around someone else's life, particularly since the Cambridges are about to move back to London and have the kids in school.

    18. Anonymous 11:11-I agree about your "drama" remark regarding RD's "stepping down" from her job. This was a post about her wedding. Some of my remarks were a bit tacky. I hate it when picky remarks are made about Kate.

      Delete
    19. Anon1 - you have been spreading a rumor that Rebecca was fired?!? WOW. I DO NOT believe that. Her job required a complete dedication and all time consuming. She doesn't just work when we see her at events, she's involved in much more. I think, with her marriage, she wants a career with normal hours that can exist with a family and kids.

One comment I heard over and over from the palace about the nanny was her "complete dedication" to the family. Like she had no personal life of her own. This is what's expected in intense jobs like this, caring for very high profile families.

Shame on you Anon1 for throwing unfounded horrible gossip at a Rebecca Deacon. How appalling. Really!!

      Delete
    20. I agree. "...unfounded horrible gossip" is appalling. Directed toward anyone. Especially information not backed up by facts- unfounded. I guess being fired might equate to gossip about one's marriage being rocky or cheating on one's spouse; or not caring about or being qualified for one's work. I don't recall using the word "fired."Luckily, I put a consistent name to my comments so you know exactly who to scold. And...I had just apologized and retracted my original theory. I have no idea whether or not you have made such comments about Kate and family, however, Anonymous...

    1. I haven't seen it but did read that so many thought it looked like George that RD's sister eventually posted on twitter or somewhere like it that the boy is a cousin's son. I don't think Kate went myself since for whatever reason she rarely attends any weddings these days. But if she did go I would be surprised if she took George since he's not even 4 yrs old yet. Kids can be pretty unpredictable at formal events!

    6. If Kate (& William) go to Natasha's wedding and not Rebecca's, I will be peeved! LOL.

I'm surprised there are no concerns about Natasha's position and her relationship. Going through his IG account they hang out while on business trips - in a Paris cafe the weekend W&K were just there, hiking together in Bhutan, etc. Although I believe she does get breaks during the trips, I'm surprised at the access it could possibly give him. However, I'm guessing they feel she/he have been discreet, otherwise they would probably terminate her employment.

    7. ~ A, that is a really good point. I never thought of the access that Chris Jackson would get by being in a relationship with Natasha, but as you said, they seem super discreet & loyal. So no issues there...I'm still wondering when their nuptials will be.

    4. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials, 7:15! As the former flower person for a wedding planner I'm saying "get that bouquet ordered early!" I know of one wedding where the colors were black and white and the bride wanted black and white tulips in her bouquet. It wasn't spring here so they had to be ordered from South America! Another wedding paid $20 per stem for the bride to have hydrangeas in February! Your forest theme sounds just lovely.

One thing I really love about Rebecca's bouquet is the size. If there were one thing I could change about Kate's wedding it would be the size of her bouquet. It was far too small for a bride of her height and the size of the venue. It looked as if someone had handed her a posy on the way in. Other than that, it was perfection!

I think Kate was trying not to make it an oversized monstrous thing, but it went too much the other way. Anyhoo, loved your comment!

    9. My [tardy!] two cents on Kate's wedding bouquet ... perhaps she didn't want it to eclipse her gown. If you look at the wedding photo, the lace pattern of her gown is consistent with the size of the flowers used in the bouquet. Don't get me wrong; I love flowers and I have seen some beautiful wedding bouquets, but they *can* overpower a gown rather than complement it.

I just do not understand that dress.... again that's something the queen could wear or close to it. She's 34! Yes, I get the fabric is beautiful, but can't that go with an appropriate design too? I'm not saying she always has to be showing skin but, really, this is getting to be ridiculous. Reminds me of the Paris dress with the flowers. Where are the showstoppers from their first year or two of marriage?? Remember the pink dress from their first major night event as a married couple? Very covered up, but age appropriate. And stunning to boot! Stop please, Kate, you are killing me!

    1. Anon 9:27AM ~ I think Anita Dongre tries to marry traditional (sometimes conservative) Indian style with modern beauty. That kind of fit is something I would expect, even if it isn't what you would expect a lot of caucasion, western 34 year-olds to wear. Kate either wants to wear AD for relations, or for an event with Indian ties. That is why I think we could see her in something similar to this.

I agree that if W&K had been there we would know by now. I'm sure Rebecca and Adam received a lovely gift from the Cambridge family and that Kate did not want Rebecca's big day to be about her. Every bride deserves to be the biggest attention getter at her wedding and I can see Kate being very sensitive to that.
