Kate Pictured on a School Run With George

Friday, November 10, 2017

We heard a couple of days ago that with the return of her health, Kate has been doing the school-run with George. Many have wondered what the Duchess might wear to drop-off or pick-up duty at the school gates. Although we don't know what she wears every day, on Halloween she wore her Monreal track pants and Playbrave jacket.  I assume this photo was taken the on Halloween, because her ensemble is absolutely the same all the way down to her pony--I speak no German.  Thanks to Zara who drew my attention to this image, and to Marina who tracked down a clear image of Kate! Gala ran this photo this week and to my understanding it is still on the stands!

Kate has George's Thomas's Battersea backpack slung over her shoulder, and the little prince looks more enthused than he did on his first day as he strides confidently forward wearing what appear to be gym clothes. Based on Google translation, it isn't clear to me if this is Kate before or after her event. My thought is it is afterward, because don't most kids have gym toward the end of their day rather than the beginning?  [Below, Kate at the LTA either before or after the school run...] Plus, Kate's ponytail looks like it is getting a little tired.

It is just a little picture, but still so fun to see Kate enjoying her favorite role: mom. Ok, remember we have the Festival of Remembrance tomorrow night and Cenotaph on Sunday. Because it is a busy weekend of Kate, there won't be a "Coffee & Kate" this weekend. See you soon!

  1. I think it's after because of her hair and what a treat. Such a sweet photo of mother and son and I can imagine them telling each other tales of their sporting adventures that day.

  2. ....they look so thrilled to be pictured too. Dont you think its ironic that anyone who works in that school would have had to pass a CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) background check in order to work with children but the anonymous paparazzi is allowed to stand happily outside the gate and snap away regardless of his character?? Hangin around schools with cameras to photograph other peoples children is wrong on almost all levels. I hope Kate nips this in the bud straight away by wearing the same clothes every morning just like George in his uniform. Then we'll see you try have a fashion discussion....

    1. I agree there shouldn't be photographers allowed to snap photos of the children and Kate doesn't look pleased. However, since we don't know if this is a pap shot or some school worker or another parent who took this photo, and sold it, your comment came off sounding quite rude. Actually, your last sentence with the ellipsis made it rude even if we had that information.

    2. I hope it would be 5 of the same outfits rather than she wear the same clothes every morning. As silly as it sounds I think that could go someway to ensure privacy on the school run. Less value = less incentive.

    3. If this was really Kate's attitude, it would be quite obnoxious. Without interest in them, the royals would be no more. Once public opinion turns against them, a few law changes, and poof, they are no more.

They serve at the pleasure of the people really. Pictures of them arriving and leaving school are not intrusive.

    4. Good for you. Intruding on a child's privacy is vile. I thought we'd got past publishing pap shots of children.

    5. "Serving at the pleasure of the people" has also included having her 4 year old son's photo linked with evil propaganda and having his life threatened. With all due respect how much of it would you be able to suck up as being part of "the pleasure of..."

    6. Please, RoyalFan. They can always step aside if they want to. Their life is, indeed, a pleasure.

      - No what IS obnoxious is expecting Kate to look the part for the paparazzi whom she hates just so people on the internet can have a good natter. Kate doesn't need these photos or interest from the German tabloids in order to be a credible, relevant public servant for the United Kingdom. What's more empowering wearing Gucci or taking a stand for your son? I really hope Kate and her advisers can do something about this for the sake of George's education.

  3. Well, the caption says that Kate took George to school and then went to the charity tennis event afterwards.

    1. I bet she did both. But the photo was taken after school.

  6. You're right Jane, she most likely picked him up after school. Oh, what a wonderful life she has.

  7. If you have gym at George's age then you'll wear that uniform all day. A whole class of kids his age aren't going to be quick changing.

  8. Hi Jane, the translation is: Kate did the school run with George and visited afterwards a charity tennis event.

  9. The article says "[HG/Terrible Morining sickness] had tied Duchess Kate, 35, to bed. Now she brought George, 4, to school - and visited a charity tennis event afterwards. Ah, that explains tge outfit!" So the article says this was in the morning and she went to her engagement afterwards, but I doubt they had a reliable source to tell them whrn the photo was taken , I guess they just wrote something that seemed reasobable. I agree with you Jane, that Kate's hair in the pap photo seemed more messy, it was probably taken after her engagement and after school :)

    1. Hi Sonja, do you have any idea which magazine published this? I am trying to track it down, but the girl who shared the picture she took of it seems reluctant to divulge that info. Definitely let me know if you have any idea...or have the magazine yourself! :)

    2. Hi Jane, I am afraid I don't know :( based on the little bit of cursive font you can see on the left, it could be Gala or Bunte... but I am not sure. If I get to the supermarket later, I will look through some magazines and try to find it, I am really curious as well :)

    3. I have been thinking Bunte, but not sure. If you find it, another snap with better clarity would be welcomed by several of us here. Thanks Sonja!

    5. Yeah, I asked the girl if she could share the photo without her name over it and she was rude about it then cussed everyone out on her instagram story for sharing on twitter but not instagram. I know if I ever had access to a rare photo I would scan it as clearly as possible and share it with all the blogs!

  10. Thanks for sharing the photo. Love seeing candid pictures! -J

  11. It's awesome to see this picture! I agree, Kate doesn't look thrilled, but you know, a picture of her dropping off George was bound to come out. William did it, albeit, he's pictures were of the first day, and they were under his own conditions. I think there should have been a professional photo, Palace sanctioned photo of Kate doing the school run.
I live in Maryland, so I have no clue about the magazine source of the photo. I am curious though...why would the girl that shared the photo, share the photo with you, only to be reluctant about the source? I don't get it.

    1. I think she wanted the credit for finding and sharing it, which I understand. If she hadn't picked up the magazine and shared a picture of the picture with all of us, we wouldn't have seen it. I am happy to give her credit, and did so in the initial run of this post and on IG. She contacted me pretty aggressively accusing me of not giving her credit. I was confused because I felt I had gone above and beyond to give her kudos. It turned out she wanted me to credit with a tag rather than an inline shout-out, which I would have been happy to do, but when I asked for the source (i.e. the magazine where she found the picture) she never responded. I think ultimately that a lot of bloggers and IG/social sites think that credit produces traffic. But the reality is that while there are small bumps (and rare times with large bumps) in general getting credit for an ID or for finding a picture doesn't have a huge impact. If you are someone who IDs clothes all the time, or consistently finds photos, etc, that will absolutely build an audience, but the random "hey look what I found" just isn't something to get worked up over. We should all thank each other, because it is polite and fair. But, I think she refused to give the source because she wanted to keep control of the only photo available (with her handle on it), which again, I can see the human nature side of that, but the magazine that actually paid thousands for the picture probably deserves a shout-out, too. I pointe that out to her, but apparently my argument was not persuasive.

So, my theory is that bloggers (such as myself) should thank people who find these rare shots, because we all then get to enjoy them. People who find them are right to be excited and want credit, but should keep it in perspective. A snap of the picture without the handle, but with credit to the source, isn't going to make or break your IG account. It will probably have almost no impact either way, and providing the true source is only fair to the magazine publisher. Ultimately, the royal watching community will track the original magazine down, and all the IG account manager will have done is kick up some drama amongst royal watchers and damaged her own reputation among royal watchers.

Tempest in a teapot, yes, but a very usual tempest in a teapot. These spats seem to spark with regularity. As someone who has spent an eye-watering amount of money over the years to license images that these same (doubtless very nice) young ladies then snag for free and share on their socials, I am always perplexed when I give full credit for a screen grab that cost the price of the magazine at the supermarket (if that) and get pilloried for not presenting the credit just so. I have also learned you can't change the responses, and it is best to keep moving with a positive attitude.

  13. A bit late to chime in, but I just couldn't resist! What a kid; George is sometimes too. cute. for words. As he is here.

I do think, now that he's older, that, physically, he's more Spencer than Middleton or Windsor. Those big eyes, altho not blue, are typical of some Spencers, including his paternal grandmother, as is the colour and thickness of his hair...and may he keep his hair as long as Charles, the current Earl Spencer!

    1. I agree. He's also getting taller. That's a Spencer trait. The current Earl Spencer is around 6'3" and William is 6"3" although some sites put him at 6'2". The Spencer's have larger bone structure, too.

    2. Check out Earl Spencer's son. o OMG literally gorgeous, and I don't use that term lightly.
