Kate Goes Casual at Bond Primary School for Tennis Clinic

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

This morning Kate was at the Great Ormond Street Hospital wearing Boden, and this afternoon she changed to a casual ensemble to visit Bond Primary School and see the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative in action. Her dressed down ensemble will ring some bells!

After a quiet morning reception, it was back to fluttering flags and excited little voices this afternoon, as you can see in this video from Richard Palmer:
Love the laughter Kate brought with her here:

Another fun video, because really the tennis events are the most fun in motion:
Kate likes to get involved in the various training exercises, and today was no exception. I imagine she does these with George and Charlotte as she gets her own kiddies excited about a sport for which she has such a passion.
Kate recycled her Monreal London track pants and wore another PlayBrave zip up. The consensus between Sara and Laura is that this is PlayBrave's Sophia Soft Shell in white.

This is almost full recycle of the ensemble she wore to her LTA event in November.

This morning, Kate drew comment by not wearing her engagement ring or eternity band. There were a number of hypotheses, but it has now been widely reported that she didn't wear the ring due to a minimal jewelry policy at the hospital. I can't remember Kate not wearing her engagement ring, even at hospitals, but it is possible she has taken it off for brief periods in the midst of an engagement, whereas today she just chose not to wear it (or the eternity band) for the entire event. It was back in place this afternoon.

Kate got some very sweet goodbye hugs, too. This video is making all the rounds:

Baby Cambridge! I can't wait for April!

  1. Yay for the change in outfit! She's ready to take action. Love all the videos. She really shines when she's with children. There's another video from the Hello royal correspondent that shows kids hugging Kate when they were supposed to be only shaking her hand! So adorable!

    1. I am a huge fan of Kate, but she needs to grow out her hair. A longer length with some shorter layers is better suited to her facial proportions. It also gives her a distinctive look which is a good look for royalty.

    2. I've no problem with her hair length at all. As long as she doesn't cut it very short or bring back the fringe, I will be happy.

  2. Kate is really starting the year off well with her working schedule. I must say, I am tired of these Monreal pants. I'm sure they are her go to tennis pants and it's nice that they fit her pregnant body. I like the white jacket with them but, as much as I love those earrings, a bit dressy for the outfit. Maybe she just forgot to take them off after the morning event. She's so adorable with the kids!

    1. The engagements are quite close together even if they're morning and afternoon schedules, so I'm sure she left the earrings for practicality. I like that she recycled her Monreal pants. They're probably the only sporty pair that fits her right now. I would have loved her hair in a ponytail, but that's a very minor detail for me.

    2. I agree a ponytail would have looked great today but, again, a minor detail.

    3. I am with you RobinfromCA...these are my least favorite pants. I feel like they are way too tapered for the size of the white panels on either side. Also, and now I am really just nitpicking, I wish DOC would wear a more sleek running shoe. She's drop dead gorgeous regardless though!

  3. I love love love these engagements with the kids. That video of her giving each kid in line a hug just melts my heart. I don't think we've ever seen that from any royal before! There are several pictures online showing Kate's baby bump - it's quite big now. But still she bends over and gets on the ground with the children. I love her for that!

    1. One other royal hugged children all the time and that was Diana. Well done, Kate!

  4. There was one event (pre children) when she left the hospital without her engagement ring on because hospital staff suggested she take it off.

    1. It was hospital policy that they wear minimal jewellery. It makes sense to prevent the spread of germs from hand contact and such. I'm glad she complied.

  5. Great day of events. Kate is so wonderful with children. I saw the video of her hugging the children. It is just wonderful, and will mean so much to these kids years from now, when Kate is Queen. Loved this post.

  6. As far as Royal days, this day was tops. From Kate's speech to the afternoon with kids, we are reminded what a great asset Kate is to the monarchy.

  7. It's always nice to see her interacting with children. She's a natural! G&C are very lucky indeed.

  8. So, with this very side view of Kate's tummy, do we think she's carrying more like when she had George or when she had Charlotte. Supposedly, you carry boys low and straight out front; girls high and more spread around your waist. I carried high and straight out front - girl. Of course, that's back when we thought spitting in Draino could determine your baby's gender so what did we know?

    1. It seems to me that Kate carries her pregnancies the same way (or she never wears tight enough clothes for us to examine precisely) - that is a perfect little ball in front. I have no idea what she's having from the way she carries them, but I've got a feeling it's a boy. No reason, just a hunch.

I think she looks more like she did with George. Definitely thought her bump in the first pregnancy was very round and sticking out a lot, whereas with Charlotte the bump seemed more elongated and spread out. So mostly like the common conception of bumps and gender you've pointed out, Robin, although I did think she actually carried Charlotte low and George higher. Winter pregnancies do make it much harder to tell since she can camouflage so easily with her coats.

  9. I though Kate’s new assistant replacing Rebecca Deacon was a very attractive but older woman. I haven’t seen her in any photos. Do I have this wrong?

    1. Yes Ms Quinn is older, she's in some photos short grey haired lady, she also has a younger assistant long blondish hair on the footage I think when Kate arrived at the Hospital...........I really liked Rebecca Deacon there were great vibes between her & Kate. She was professional & seemed to have a lot of fun too!!!

    2. I totally agree with Anon 7:17am. So miss Rebecca Deacon. She & Kate were a really well connected team. So professional & so together & appeared very comfortable with each other. The new older lady just doesn’t seem to have a connection with Kate & I don’t mean that in an offensivel way. What I am surprised is this new hire has an assistant .is this position already too much for her ? Please share Jane if you know any information.

    3. I think RD was a good choice as Kate began her royal life. Being closer in age, it would not make Kate feel as though she was being "instructed" vs. assisted in her work. Most likely, Kate was happy to have Rebecca at her side as she (they!) learned the ropes. But I can see the advantages of having an older and more experienced person in this position and it certainly speaks to Kate's ability and comfort level that CQ is not always at her side.

Rebecca Deacon had an assistant too. Her name was Sophie and a lot of ppl speculated she might get promoted to RD'S spot before CQ hire was announced.
I think hiring CQ was an excellent move. Kate and Rebecca may have had a good connection, but that was probably due to their age similarities, which I don't think is a good thing. Kate needs someone more experienced, not someone who was learning alongside her. I'm sure having Rebecca was comforting and relaxing, but hopefully someone like CQ will push Kate in terms of fulfilling her potential as a senior royal. I never got the feeling that RD could/would do that, which is not her own fault in any way - she didn't have the experience.
I also wouldn't be surprised if CQ doesn't come to all engagements like RD did. Somehow I cannot see her spending significant time holding Kate's extra stuff and all the flowers she gets for her - she seems a bit over qualified for that. It's also possible that she's at all the events but has someone else do the holding things stuff for kate and so she's just not showing up in any of the pictures since there's no reason to be right next to Kate much if she's not holding her stuff for her.

    5. Anon 2:10, who knows if they were a really well connected team or a good combo for a professional work environment. Rebecca was lovely, but I do not miss her in that role. With Catherine Q's background i think she was a very much needed person. If she and Catherine are not very comfortable with each other she will soon be gone, it is pretty simple.

    6. Sorry for the delay in responding. Everything here looks accurate, though. Catherine Quinn is still on the job, but it seems she doesn't accompany Kate to all her engagements. If she was there, I certainly didn't see her. She might just be incredibly discreet, but I think we are just seeing a different operating procedure.

    7. Rebecca Deacon probably was a wise choice when Kate was first starting out. I do think too that Catherine Quinn gives a different perspective due to her experience. Timing is everything.

  11. A lovely day yesterday.
Catherine looked beautiful at both engagements---she is so wonderful with the little ones.
Just seen announced that on Feb 23rd the Duchess is to introduce a new initiative on children's mental health.
Yesterday Prince William was awarded an honorary Fellowship from the Society of Medicine.
Nice to see the younger generation making their mark.

    1. I like to royal watch, but I hardly think W getting an honorary anything is making a mark. That's what gives royals a bad name.

    2. I can see why he would get that. He was an air ambulance pilot and has done much to help educate the public about mental health. From what I can see, The Royal Society of Medicine is all about education. I know Kate and Harry have also done their share but honoring the future king is the right thing to do.

  12. The entire time i saw images of the event I barely saw the bump and wondered how she did it. Thank you for showing a great shot of the bump in the outfit! She hid it well with the white!

  13. OMG. William's new haircut. No. Just, no.😔😔

I realize he's balding, but this is not the solution. I think he's a handsome guy and this haircut does him a huge disservice.

    1. Oh dear I have to totally disagree with you. I think the new haircut suits him so well! He was balding anyway and the combover really wasn't working. Shaving it was really the only thing to do and I think he looks quite handsome with it.

    2. I agree 1:34, embrace it!

    3. I am not sure about the hair. He was not doing a comb over and wore it short already, it is just a different look, I am thinking he can go either direction. The only issue is the much shorter cut requires twice as many visits or maybe more to the hair dresser:). I actually right at this point think either way looks good.

    4. Having a little hair softens his look, which he needs.

    5. I also think it is too short

    6. Not that William cares a whit what I think but I think too that a little hair softens his looks. I do really like bald males but especially with beards. I wish he would try out a beard.

    7. Katharine, I so agree with you. William needs a beard! It would really balance out the lack of hair on top ;)

  15. I can't decide if it's a boy or girl; I'm thinking girl...
The hair is problematic, but Kate looks healthy and spiffy:)
I thought she might've removed the ring due to swelling from pregnancy, good tip on the hospital rules, Jane:)

  16. Hello from Holland!

We have our own Royals, and do I love them! But I wanted to leave a message to say: I love the British Royals too! Especcially now both young princes seem so happy, it's a delight. Kate is such an elegant stunner, if I may say so, a real queen to be next to William. And Harry with his Meghan, they look so happy. My biggest wish is that Kate and Meghan will be each others support in the future. <3

  17. To me, this outfit is one of Kate’s worst. I literally hate it. It looks like something my gym teacher would have worn 20 years ago. Just yuck.

With so many adorable workout/exercise options out there, this is a disaster.
