Kate Is At The Head Start Learning Conference in Tory Burch

Thursday, January 11, 2018

Kate is attending the Head Start Learning Conference this morning, according to the Anna Freud Centre. The charity, of which Kate is patron, tweeted out this photo (which I saw because James Whatling retweeted!) just an hour ago.

The Duchess is wearing her Bettina sparkly tweed coat from Tory Burch. This is a recycle, and you will recognize it from her trip to NYC where she paired it with J.Crew maternity twill skinnies:

It appears that Kate is probably wearing the same dark turtleneck today, too.

The Anna Freud Centre's tweet said:
We are delighted to welcome our Patron HRH the Duchess of Cambridge to the #HeadStartLearning Conference. HRH is a committed champion of children's mental health and wellbeing and it is fantastic to have her here! @BigLotteryFund @kensingtonRoyal
As I say, this just came across my radar, and I will update with any further info that surfaces, or more pictures of Kate. Happy Thursday, all!

  1. Thanks for the scoop, Jane! I love that Tory Burch coat. It’s great to see her recycling pieces from her previous pregnancies.

  2. Lovely surprise to see Catherine out again today.
She absolutely sparkles when there are young children about.
Hope she does not come under pressure to do a lot more public engagements--let her spend as much time as she can with her own little ones.
The monarchy can only benefit from that.

    2. I hear she heard she stayed up until the afternoon. Probably in between school runs. Good on her!

    3. I also hope so Jean.

  3. Why is it "recycled" when she wears something in public a second time?
OK I was curious about that word so I went to the dictionary. I am a Word Nerd! :0) I was certain that it was odd to say "recycle" but #3 in the definition below cleared it up for me.
(No matter how many pretty things or how few I have, I end up wearing the same stuff most of the time, I wonder if Kate has faves when she is just at home? Like does she come home, kick off her heels and put on a big snuggly sweater and leggings? I think that will probably stay a mystery, eh?)

    verb

    1. convert (waste) into reusable material. [this is what I thought the word only meant]
"car hulks were recycled into new steel"
synonyms: reuse, reprocess, reclaim, recover; More
    2. return (material) to a previous stage in a cyclic process.
    *3. use again.
"he reserves the right to recycle his own text"

So that's why we say she "recycles" outfits and items from wardrobe. **Lily Mathers**

  4. Yay for surprise appearances! There's another photo tweeted by Anna Freud that shows Kate doing a table discussion with young people. I heard she stayed almost the entire day.

  5. Wonderful! She looks so sincerely happy to be there. With George and Charlotte in school she has free time to make these visits and it's terrific! Once the new baby comes she won't have the luxury she has now for a couple more years so is great she's making the most of it while she can.

    1. Doesnˋt she have a nanny, Robin?

    2. A nanny doesn't breastfeed a baby. And a small child needs constant attention, a nanny has working hours, a mother is 24/24

    3. I agree, Robin.

And on a less important note, I was very happy to see this coat again. It has a nice, subtle edge to it.

    4. She has Nanny Maria but she'll also have a brand new baby to nurse. There are some things a nanny just can't do for her. Although, keeping the house clean while caring for a new baby isn't something she has to worry about - lucky girl. I'm so happy she takes time to bond with her kids as babies and toddlers. Such an important time and it really shows in the way the kids interact with both she and William.

  7. I love low key events such as this. Very happy for the organizers that she spent the whole day there. It's appreciation for their work and a show of genuine interest. Good in you Kate! George, Charlotte and the new baby will benefit from your knowledge too!

  9. I wonder which Bag she is carrying..........is she following Meghan's preference for Bags rather than Clutches? Personally I prefer Clutches for Kate.......straight hair was also an interesting new look for her, and yes I do think she's had it cut a bit shorter- I like it :)

    1. I think it was the grey Tod's bag that she's had for years. Kate has always used bags and, for example, was photographed departing for Canada and at Wimbledon with bags. I think Kate tends to use clutches for walkabout type engagements because they are less noticeable work better in photographs.

    2. What Kate Wore had an explanation a few weeks back saying that Royals prefer clutches as it gives a cleaner line and frees up hands easier. She used to always use bags with handles. Don’t believe it is a Meghan influence. Meghan will probably also resort to clutches in due time.

    3. How do you know, anonymous 12 January, that M prefers handbags? She had two royal engagements - one with a handbag, one with neither bag nor clutch.

    4. Then again HMQ the #1 royal favors her trusty bag with handles so maybe there's more than one way for a royal to carry a purse

    5. A clutch also gives a handy item to place at your décolletage as you bend over to get in and out of cars or to speak to children. It's a sort of modern woman's fan and prevents those pesky cameras from shooting a photo down their fronts. HM always uses a handbag but it's a tool for her as well. Depending upon which arm she places it she is sending a message to her attendants that she is either ready to be "moved along" to another visitor or that she is still enjoying conversation with whomever she is already speaking.

    6. I rarely use clutches and had never considered using them as a cover to some extent. but that is so true that a clutch could be used that way. I will need to pay more attention to photos.

    7. Robin, I recall Diana using her clutches exactly that way. It's also a nice finishing touch. Regarding a bag vs. clutch ... I cannot imagine a significantly larger bag being practical while meeting and greeting people, collecting flowers, etc.
