Princess Charlotte's 1st Day at Nursery School

Monday, January 8, 2018

Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge released new pictures of Princess Charlotte to mark her first day of nursery school! These darling images were snapped by Kate on the steps of the family's Kensington Palace home.

I love these photos! And what a darling little uniform. Charlotte looks so sweet and ready for her first big day. Prince George, of course, started nursery school in Norfolk at Westacre Montessori. We got enthusiastic photos of him, too, as he headed in on his first day on January 6, 2016.

I definitely see so much of the Queen in this picture! I think more Middleton will manifest itself in Charlotte as she gets older, but I think we will always be able to see that Charlotte is a Windsor. :)

It is also amazing how fast she is changing, just in a few months. Just since we saw her in the summer, her face has matured and she looks older and more "grown up." I do hope we see more photos of the Cambridge children as time moves on.

Omg she is so adorable. Also love how happy go lucky, easygoing, and confident she always seems in pictures and when appearing in public.
P.s. I do see the queen in her, but imo right now her face is basically a little mini princess eugenie.

    1. I agree! There is definitely a resemblance to Eugenie! And doesn't she just look pleased as punch to be dressed up?!

    2. Maggie, totally agree--Charlotte is so much like Eugenie here, and adorable! She has grown so much since we last saw a photo of her.

    3. I agree, much more Eugenie than HM.

    4. I don’t see Eugenia at all....😳 I see a young Pip.

    5. Sometimes I see a slight resemblance to the Queen, but I've always thought she looks like Pippa.

    6. Just saw the pic of Kate as a little one climbing in the DM. I think she's in a striped sweater. The picture first came out during their engagement, but looking at it now, Charlotte looks a lot like Kate at that age. Although, Kate's face had higher cheek bones like her Dad. I think Charlotte is really going to look like Pip and Kate.

I think we first look to the royal side because we are so familiar with their baby pictures. I wonder if Carole laughs at the coverage re: who the kids look like. Is she saying, "Oh, no, she's a Middleton through and through, I've got the baby pictures to prove it!" Hehe Love Carole.

    7. I don't think we look at the royal side because we know their childhood pictures. I think everyone agreed that Georges looked like his grand father Michael. No Windsor reminiscences except he also looks like his father. I think the resemblance to the Queen was very clear with Charlotte, she looked like the Queen now more than like the Queen as a child. The mouth, I believe. Not so clear anymore but it was uncanny last year.

  2. I love her little scarf!

I agree that she has changed a great deal since last summer. TBH, in the past I didn't think she was very cute. When I saw the picture of her in the back of the car at Christmas I thought she had changed into a very cute little girl. And she has always looked very confident, which will serve her well.

    1. I agree. I also though that while George was very cute as a baby she was sweet but not so beautiful. She has improved a lot and promises to be a beauty.

  8. Jane, I so agree she is looking so much like the Queen! There is a picture that has been on the Express website of the Queen at what appears to be age 3 or 4 - the resemblance is uncanny. Looks so tall here as well, taking after her parents😉

  9. Princess Charlotte is absolutely adorable and is growing so quickly. I love it when Catherine takes the photos. I don’t see any resemblance to Eugenie either.
I do have a question: why does Catherine wear coat dresses? What are they for? I have tried looking them up but am unable to get an answer.

  10. These are just too cute! That little scarf is adorable and she looks so cute in that coat! She certainly has her mommy's luxurious hair! I love that Kate takes these cute photos of her kids and shares them with all of us.

    1. I don't think you can get a more natural expression than a smile for Mommy (or Daddy!).

Me thinks this little girl is an old soul, and I continue to see Carole's eyes.

    2. I see a lot of Carole in her too, royalfan. I've always thought that's who she looks most like. When Eugenie was mentioned above I went and looked at some of her photos and there is a resemblance. Much more than HM whom I've never really seen in her. Either way, this little girl is a cutie and has personality plus!

    3. Robin, it will be interesting to watch her grow up. And based on the personality that comes across in her photos, I think she would be more than up to the task of having two brothers. :-)

I think she is going to have Kate’s hair(lucky girl)! :-)

  12. How adorable. What a precious little girl, and I love her outfit, the scarf is priceless. Her Mom sure takes great pictures.

  13. She is adorable! I'm so glad that Kate took these snaps as Charlotte may not have been as comfortable with a stranger. In these she looks relaxed, natural, and oh so happy.

  14. Gorgeous pictures, so lovely. Such a loved and cared for child, that's for sure! And I love that Princess Charlotte is beautifully dressed but not ever decked out is super frilly or sparkly stuff. Kudos to the HRH's for that. As for my two cents in this round of "who does Charlotte look like" game.... I used to be on the William bandwagon (and I still see a bit of him), but man, Princess Charlotte is just rocking her Middleton genes in these pictures! Silvia

    1. I have to agree. I have always thought she very much resembled HRH, but here she is definitely her Mama's girl!

  15. Adorbs... The standing pic she definitely looks like a Middleton girl. In the one sitting down, maybe the Queen, but definitely her sister Margaret.

Love how her little face is maturing through the family genes and shaping up to become her very own eventually.

  16. Charlotte has such presence and personality!

Frankly, I see little resemblance to Elizabeth. There are published side by side photos in the media. If I go feature by feature - shape of the eyes, eyebrows, hairline, nose, shape of the cheeks and face - I got nothing! Maybe when she gets older?

  17. What a cutie and she looks like she knows it too!!! I see Kate's upturned expression in the seated photo but I see little Lillibet too. She's really matured into a little lady- I bet she steals the show at Uncle Harry's wedding...

  18. Talk about confidence in the camera's eye! Miss Charlotte has it in spades...at least, when Mummy is behind said camera; might be different otherwise.

What a charming outfit, very well colour-coordinated. Just love burgundy and pink.

I don't think Mummy and Daddy have much to worry about re Charlotte's ability to adapt to nursery school; this little girl just radiates comfort in her own skin.

As far as whom Charlotte most resembles, I need a few more years to decide--altho at birth, I thought she was a very pretty mix of Kate and the Queen.

  19. What Lovely photos: she looks so grown up. Much better than facing the child with a gaggle of photographers.
I think she looks like the photos of her Mummy as a young child and she certainly seems she has hair like her Mum's

  20. To me, her and PG are interchangeable! They look so much alike. I get being brother and sisters usually look somewhat alike but these two could be identical twins! She has changed to better imho, darling photos! Thank you Kate and Jane!!

    1. Too me the big difference is in the nose. George looks like he got William's straighter more angular nose and I think Charlotte got her Grandfather Middleton's nose, more of the upturned fuller nostril nose. The bone structure of the chin and cheeks is hard to see because they both have those very full little kid faces, they may keep that roundness or it may disappear. But I think the basic nose structure will stay along with the eyes.

    1. I agree Susan, if you google Princess Diana Passport, the picture of young Diana resembles Charlotte quite a bit--especially the eyes.

William inherited Diana's blue eye color and shape, looks like Charlotte did too.

  23. I just about died when I came across these photos. Charlotte is adorable, clearly, but I absolutely love seeing photos of any child's first day of nursery school! In different expressions Charlotte makes I see a resemblance mostly to Pippa, QEII, and in these photos above I finally see a resemblance to Kate. I read somewhere, or might have seen a side-by-side online of Charlotte and Queen Mother, which I'd not seen before, but hey, it's there!

  24. I adore when Kate is the photographer. I feel she captures her children’s expressions in such a positive way. Charlotte was dressed so cute for her first day of nursery school. The only sadness is: Kate can not be a stay at home mom to be there for both children while they are so young. To parent help, go on field trips, be by their children’s bedside if they are ill. All the things a mom partakes in when the children are so little. I do think there are other royal family memember who could fill in the gap of public appearances part time: Prince Harry & Meghan & the blood born princesses Beatrice & Eugenie just until the children are a bit older. I love seeing Kate...& all her beautiful outfits, it’s just that children are only little for a short amount of time. Charlotte is onLy 2 years old & George 5 years old.

    1. IMO Kate is a SAHM. So, ease your worries.

    2. I am sorry but I disagree strongly with you. IMO Kate is a SAHM - she is only doing a few engagements and she can do a lot of things other mothers can not do. Kate has money, is funded by GBR and has a lot of time to spend with her children. I love Kate but I think she should do engagements and she is not on her limit and that is okay.
There are mothers who can not spend enough time with their children because they have to work to earn money. You should be sad/sorry for them and not for Kate who is very priviliged and can spend more time with her kids than most parents can dream of (i still like her).

  25. I'm late in the game but popped in to say how absolutely adorable these photos are! They just made my day. That little twinkle in Charlotte's eye and the confident smile! I know some complain about it, but Kate by far takes the best photos of her children. She just captures their little personalities. Charlotte seems to be a lively, outgoing one. I bet she can't wait to be a big sister!

  26. Perhaps I'm alone in my thinking, but I've always thought that Charlotte looks like her grandmother, Carole Middleton. I first noticed this when she was a baby, and I still see a big resemblance. I honestly don't think she looks that much like Kate or Eugenie or George or even the Queen. But Carole Middleton… yes.

  27. I agree with anonymous 2:30pm. It would be wonderful if Kate could be a full time Mum. If she didn’t have to work full time, she would be able to be a stay at home mum. Otherwise Charlotte would not have been enrolled full time in a nursery school at age 2 years old. Yes, the children have nanny Maria, she doesn’t replace their mum Kate. They’re are other royals who could fill in to & would probably enjoy doing the charity work Kate has recently added to her schedule. Kate & Georgie & Charlotte would all benefit in the long way.

    1. I think she is enrolled with 2,5years because of the new arrival in April. KAte will never be a full time working Mum till all of her kids are in boarding school.

    2. Jane, I highly doubt this is a uniform. (refering to your second paragraph). The pieces are all designer pieces available on a website for purchase.

    3. I disagree with you, Kate is not a private citizen she is partially funded by the taxpayers, so she can’t just be a stay at home when she wants to. Part of her job is to undertake royal duties on behalf of the queen and to do work that helps the vulnerable and disenfranchised. I agree that when a couple has young children somebody has to work less in order to care for the kids and most of the time it’s the mother. But Kate’s situation is different than the average mom, she has enough money to hire a nanny and she can Set up her own work hours and schedule. I have no problem with Kate scaling back her duties when her kids are young, but being a full time SHM is not an option because part of her lifestyle is taxpayer funded.
Think about it, if a normal mom who was taxpayer funded and decided to be a full time shm she would be told to stop being lazy and go find a job. Also, there is nothing wrong with a mom of young children working part time, I know plenty of moms who do it and their kids are fine.

    4. What a load of nonsense. I am pretty sure Charlotte is not in full-time nursery school (probably just mornings only or something), and the Duchess has plenty of time to spend with her kids. She "works" but is also VERY privileged in many ways.

      Delete
    5. Anon 12:31... The less Catherine leaves the house, the less "taxpayer funded" security detail will be necessary :p

Please stop thinking you can rule and dictate their day to day life just because ancient laws state those in direct line for the throne should live in secure palace digs and receive security detail when they step out. Other than those things, they receive no income from tax dollars to pay for their "lifestyle", so it's time to give up that false claim.

    6. Kate comes from a wealthy family; she could have lived a comfortable life even if she had not married William. William, being heir, has to undertake royal responsibilities . She is his spouse not an employee. He's the one with the job. From what I've read the existence of the royal family brings in a tremendous amount of money into the economy. In other words they more than pay their way.

    7. I have no problem with how Kate is juggling her family and work at the moment. She can't not work for the Firm because of her status, but scaling back whilst the children are young is absolutely commendable in my book. Motherhood is the most important job regardless of status.

I am not dictating or ruling anybodies life, I am just responding to a post I disagree with. My post, your post or anybody else’s post has 0 effect on their life.
Even when Kate stays at home her security detail is taxpayer funded.
