Duchess Kate's Two Days of Engagements

Thursday, March 22, 2018

Good morning all, and Happy Thursday! We've had two Kate events in the past forty-eight hours, as I am sure you all know. :) I will be blogging about both of them both later today.

Yesterday, Kate was out in a fresh, minty ensemble by Jenny Packham (above), and this morning she undertook an engagement with William on behalf of SportsAid (below). I think these trousers are going to spark some chatter.

I'll see you all later today for the full round-up!

  1. She must be relieved to go on leave now.
Ha! I guess you are right with the trousers. They will induce similar disussions as in previous posts.
However i am fine with them, even if a bit tight. I preferred skinnies at the end of my pregnancy as well, so I might be biased. HOWEVER, that blouse that is 3 sizes to small do cover the lower part of the bump is rather something i think went wrong today. This just looks so bad...

    1. I agree about the top - a cute maternity top with those skinniest would have been perfect.

    2. Would have been so cute with a tunic and some flats

    3. I do not find the top at all too small:). Not a fan of the green color in the dress and coat outfit.

    4. Skinnies look so much better on a very pregnant woman who is in good shape and has great legs than something wider. She looks amazing especially for being so far along! It’s hard to appreciate it until your need there done that.

    5. I liked the look - my neighbor is due around the same time as Kate and she's rocking the skinnies too. Kate is looking great!

  2. I've always been a huge fan of Kate. It's interesting to me that the introduction of Meghan has increased by admiration for Kate. I am definitely not saying that from a place of dislike for Meghan... I am a huge fan of hers as well! They just bring such different vibes to the Monarchy and it is exciting and interesting to see. I actually think the introduction of Meghan has allowed Kate to find her own and stay firm to her style, personality, values, etc. With Meghan's strong personality coming on, I was worried Kate would clam up. However, she is oozing confidence in her role now. And i love it! THE DREAM TEAM!

Also, love this mint green. It's a little matronly for me, but when I initially saw the color, I thought yes girl!

    1. I loved the color but agree that the coat was a bit matronly. It reminded me of a costume from Call the Midwife. That said she did look great. I think she would have looked better with the tweed mint coat she wore when pregnant with George. That was a favorite of mine!

    2. I think it was the bow for me that was a bit off, a little too 80’s maternity for me.

    3. I loved that mint tweed coat with the broderie anglaise dress underneath. That was so cute! This green coat did look a bit too retro & matronly, but Kate can almost get away with anything!

    4. Kate is a real queen. Meghan a lovely starlet

  3. I wonder if she was channeling Meghan with these trousers!

    1. I think she's channeling the look she went for in New York City in 2014 when they attended the basketball game. Jacket, trousers and heels included. ☺

    2. Nope. Not channeling Meghan. This is a look she has worn for years. Longer jacket, overblouse, leggings or skinny jeans.

    3. I agree completely royalfan. This isn't the first time we've seen her in skinnies. I like that they're not faded but a crisp black. I do agree that the top is a bit off. Love the coat though.

  4. Oh how I love the green coat with the fabulous bow! Perfect spring fashion! I am such a fan of bow accents. I am not as keen on the dress though. I think it’s because the fabric is different than the overcoat and so the color doesn’t read quite right? I would have loved to have seen a garden print dress with this coat and maybe a coordinated print scarf attached to a handbag. For today’s outfit, I adore the trouser look! I thought the top was cute and love the bit of pattern. I think a ballet flat or small chunky heel would have looked better though. The black heels she wore just looked a bit much at this event and with the skinny trousers. Anyway, who cares about any of that? Lol! :) It’s time for her to rest up and (I pray) deliver a beautiful, healthy baby.

    1. Anon 9:54- yes, a print under the Springy mint green coat would be nice. Flowers, maybe? The plain fabric of the dress that is visible (I assume the whole dress is without embellishment) may be more versatile for future use but I don't even want to think about her going through another pregnancy. I am wishing for twins. ;+)
Also, flats--booties? partly, just to ease my anxiety about her breaking laws of physics wearing towering heels with her weight already shifted to the front. She has started to compensate at times by holding her upper body back to offset the weight imbalance-which is a normal thing to do the last couple of weeks.
I think the skinnies and heels may have been an act of defiance:" Hey, this pregnancy isn't gonna stop me from being me." Or maybe a deliberate stimulus to online chatter so she and William can have something to entertain them during the final, LONG days and nights. I have a picture in my mind of the time they were photographed at a sport's event, smiling over something they were looking at on the phone screen. I think Kate was actually newly pregnant with George at the time.

Mostly, I give her 100% for showing up and throwing herself into the spirit. She's earned those skinnies.
      PS
I am a little concerned about her eyelids being so swollen they are almost closed. anon1

    2. Yes the dress and coat are ALMOST the same color. It looks too close to be complementary but not identical.

    3. anon1, I noticed her eyes were puffy the last two engagements, also. I put it down to fatigue but I do hope she is OK & well! She has been really putting herself out there with all of these engagements lately. I hope she has a really good rest! I’m also hoping for twins this time, as I don’t think she will have anymore children after this pregnancy. She is looking quite tired & twins would be a wonderful surprise :)

    4. A good rest would be nice, Kiwi, but I wonder about the chances of that with her little ones at her knee. Nanny may be taking a break now that engagements are apparently over for awhile before the busier times ahead and William will be increasingly occupied with Commonwealth activities as well as on-going work for HM. Mum Carole has other family to attend to as well as a husband and a business.
I seem to recall that she spent some quality time with George before his baby sister was born. I imagine there will be cooking and filling the freezer for the hectic days to come. She spoke again of her enjoyment of cooking "all the time" recently. I also think it is likely Kate will have some phone calls, emails, and possibly meetings at KP concerning her new and continuing work with her projects and charities. Perhaps getting the children ready for the wedding. Lots to do that I can think of and some things we may not be aware of to occupy her time.
I do believe that ,clinically, rest is defined as a change from the routine. Or maybe that is a vacation. Ha! anon1

    5. Her puffy eyes may be due to allergies--makes sense this time of year.

    6. Good point, Jay! and a relief. She can't take most allergy meds at this time. She seems to be extremely careful to protect her babies. I had not noticed that much eyelid swelling in photos taken about this time previously, so I was concerned a little. The slight swelling in her legs has gone down and I really didn't think it was pregnancy related.anon1

  5. Love the green on Kate! Just gorgeous. Don't care so much for the trouser with the side seam as they resemble yoga pants and don't fare so well with the high heels. But she appears very happy and this is her last event apparently as maternity leave has finally arrived. No more high heels for her! But the green was bright and beautiful and Kate looked lovely in both photos.

  6. I can't wait for the arrival of Baby Cambridge but I'm selfishly disappointed that this is the last we will see of Kate for some time!

    1. anon 10:56- I am holding out hope for another photographed meeting at KP. I doubt her involvement with the new efforts will end just because she is staying close to home. Sort of like HM mostly stays close to home-BP or Windsor for activities these days. anon1

  7. I think she looks fantastic considering how far along she is. And from other photos I've seen, she continues to reach out to children at their level which is amazing.

I like this trouser, heel and jacket combination. I thought it looked chic 4 years ago in New York and I have not changed my opinion lol.

    1. I’m the same, royalfan! I loved the Tory Burch coat with the black jeans & heels at the basketball game in NYC; such a stylish look for Kate! She looks great & has gotten some good wear out of the cream GOAT coat during this pregnancy. I’m glad she is now on maternity leave, though, & gets to put her feet up :)

  8. I liked both of these outfits, but most of all I have loved seeing the smiling; joyful Duchess of the last few months.
We will miss seeing her, but look forward to meeting the latest Baby Cambridge.
We will probably be hearing more information about Prince Harry's wedding. I note they released some details today, after William and Catherine had completed today's engagements,

  9. Thanks Jane for a Kate update. Enjoyed seeing both outfits, I think that particular shade of green looks great on a lot of people. Kate included. The pants & jacket very smooth, what didnt look correct were the “high Pumps”. I do believe it’s time for ballet flats & for short heeled boots. It always makes me wonder why Kate continues to wear such tall heels. She is already so tall its indeed time for a new shoe trend for Kate. Meaghan on the hand appears short, so I see why she elevates her height with tall pumps.

  10. I haven't participated in the comments section for months but this green outfit has lured me out of hiding. I love the bow detailing on the coat but that's just about the only good thing I can say about it. I'm just glad she didn't wear matching green pumps.

  11. Can't wait for your full report, Jane! I loved the green on Kate and the jacket was perfect with the bow tie at the top. So retro! The dress was a little blah but the bright color overcame that issue. Pants and coat are wonderful!

  12. She looks amazing - beautiful Kate. I am going to miss her :(

  13. I think Kate looks lovely, but, even so, I really don't like this shade of green on her. I do think the leggings look great on her, and am glad she chose to where them- she looks very comfortable.

  14. Yay, so happy to see a post and cannot wait for more in-depth coverage!

Loved the minty green look, color and style. I don't care what anyone else opines, I absolutely love that she is confident enough to go against the grain and wear a more traditional maternity look. Call it matronly, whatever. She is almost 40 for goodness sake. I am 36 and I don't see it as matronly at all. I see it as feminine and ladylike.

I think I've mentioned before that my late maternal grandmother was so passionate about the BRF and passed it along to me. She always loved Kate and didn't live to see her become engaged, but this minty green dress is something she would have adored, and possibly even wore something similar in the early 60s when she was pregnant and oh so stylish. I'm rambling here.

The skinny trousers with point pumps, I don't love, but she still looks great. I'd say at this stage of pregnancy, she can go ahead and wear whatever she wants. I love it all!

    1. Stephanie...as a fellow 36 year old like you and Kate don’t put all three of us at 40 just yet!!!! We have 4 years to go! Also, isn’t 40 the new 30 so no need to start wearing the grandma clothes just yet! If you got it, flaunt it and Kate has got it!

    2. Hi there Ellen, I apologize for aging us way before it is time! Trust me, I am not happy about it haha, but I own that I am closer to 40 than 30. Who am I kidding, I still tell people I'm 29 with a straight face. All I really meant to say was that I love that Kate is age-appropriate and always proper.

  15. Although I don’t object to the skinnies, the coat, blouse, heels, and skinnies just did not look like an ensemble to me. The pieces seemed random, and didn’t make a cohesive statement. It is interesting that I noticed that Spain’s Queen Letizia, also a beautifully put together royal, wore leather skinnies with heels and a beautifully tailored coat to one of her events this week.
