Guess Baby Cambridge's Birthday!

Tuesday, March 27, 2018

A week or so ago I got an email from one of you suggesting I host a friendly guessing game of when the next little Cambridge will make his or her appearance. I thought it was a cute idea to keep us busy while we wait, and should be fun for those of you with a bit of a competitive streak (you know who you are ;)).  So, I Googled around a little and found this "Baby Bookie" program to host our blog pool. A few things to know before you place your bet (no money involved). No due date has ever been mentioned by the Palace. We only know that Kate is due in April. The 18th listed as the due date on the Baby Bookie is just the random middle of the month I chose because I couldn't leave the option blank. So, feel free to choose any day of the month! May the best intuition win...

Hope you enjoy! Access the Baby Bookie here or at the link above.

  1. Jane-that was so fun! Thank you for making a suggestion a reality!

  2. Thats fun! Its interesting to see the spread of guesses throughout entire April.
I still believe that her due date is very similar to Charlottes. Possibly a few days earlier since with a later due date, May might have been announced as arrival month instead of April. I think the argument of the start of the morning sickness is a much stronger indicator than her bigger bump, which is typical for subsequent pregnancies.
Accordingly, i dont believe she worked closer to her due date, especially since she worked until later in March with Charlotte compared to baby #3. I am really curious though to hear fundamented arguments for the contrary, besides bigger belly.
At the end, the baby will chose the date obviously :)

    1. Maybe based on H+M wedding date an earlier due date is more likely?
Also, there is Williams comment that they baby is due any moment. Wouldnt it be strange to make such a comment when Kate has still more than a month to go?

    2. For me, I'm going by the look of her face, hands and feet during the last few engagements. She looks like she is nearing the end. She has that puffy end of the line look about her.

      Delete
    3. Faith, I agree she is getting that puffy look. When I went into labor I looked like a beached whale. I hope she doesn't have to wear heels until after the birth now that she's on leave. Just thinking about her in all those shoes makes my feet hurt!

    4. Agree Robin and Faith, I thought during her last several engagements she looked puffy and while it could just be due to different pregnancy I thought she looked overall like she was into the last month. Combination of how the bump was sitting and her puffiness., and a bit of fatigue in her face and eyes.

    5. I am also going for the date based on the announcement and her HG and assume a birth later in April. If she was due within the next two weeks that would made her around 8 weeks pregnant at her last engagement before the announcement. It is hard to imagine that she would not have suffered from HG already at this stage of pregnancy, considering when HG typically kicks in and all the parallels between her three pregnancies. Has anyone experience with HG? I only know that it normally should kick in at week 5-6.

      Delete
    6. Anon 12;51 good points but I wondered if she was able to manage it better after two prior experiences. So she may have already been feeling sick but was on medication to help. However if we assume they are preparing for a week early and a week late then April 16th would be the anticipated date and the Hospital preparing as of April 9th works for that.

      Delete
    7. I had HG twice and the 5-6 week mark was spot on for me each time but I know others who experienced symptoms even earlier. I don't know of anyone who started experiencing them much later than that.

      Delete
    8. I had HG 3 times (3 pregnancies) and it was around 5-6 weeks and mine lasted all the way through. Many people told me it was in my head and seeing HRH having it my heart goes out to her because it is debilitating. My daughter also suffered with her 2 pregnancies.

    9. Sorry to hear that you both suggered from HG. It must be frustrating to hear from other people that it was on your head. I only had normal morning sickness, but couldnt stand it when people suggested to "simply ignore" it.
Ali, you have a point in suggesting that Kates HG was better controllable the third time. This is an argument that could convince me that Kate is due before mid/end of April :)

    10. The swelling is the worst, isn't it Robin? Women are just so ready to give birth at that point. I hope Kate doesn't have weeks to go. She didn't have this look when she ended her engagements before she had George and Charlotte, so Im assuming she worked later into this pregnancy. If not, she will be very uncomfortable if this baby is due mid to the end of April.

I agree ali. Each pregnancy can present differently. Plus, she is older now with two little ones at home, so she is probably just more exhausted. I wouldn't rule out that the HG was more controlled this time around either though. Time will tell. I guessed an April 2 delivery which I know is kind of out there but she looked a whole month further along than she was with Charlotte to me. Maybe I'm just being impatient and want the newest little Cambridge to be here asap:)

Unknown and Anon 8:56, sorry you suffered from HG. I can't even imagine what that could have been like. I had regular morning (all day) sickeness and it was HORRIBLE. I had co workers tell me it was all in my head just because they never felt sick. I remember it made me feel inadequate. People can be highly insensitive unfortunately.

      Delete
    11. Ignore your morning sickness? People really said that? I wondered if they could have ignored it if you threw up on their shoes.

      Delete
    12. That would have been fun Robin :) Yes, there were indeed people that thought morning sickness was made up by hollywood movies and is not real. Even women.
Even if I never had HG, i hope that people are more sensitive about if now after Kate suffered from it.

  6. I keep thinking it's going to be early April because if it's late April, that doesn't give her much time to get ready for Harry and Meghan's wedding.....

    1. Ive been thinking the same thing. It would be nice if Kate had about a month to acclimate before the wedding.

  7. Long-time reader, first time commenting. Fun idea! I guessed later in the month assuming she was 5-6 weeks when they announced because of the hg. I forgot to leave my names in the poll, so if it’s a boy I like Christian Arthur Philip and if it’s a girl, Alice Victoria Alexandra.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would love the name Christian to be used. Its one of my favorite names for a boy. For a girl, Ive been leaning toward Amelia. The betting polls were spot on with George and Charlotte's names, so if that holds true this time, the new baby may be either Alice or Arthur.

  8. Thanks Jane! Fun idea. I loved participating. Do you have any name predictions yourself?

  9. Girl:Alice Caroline MaryVictoria would be nice but somehow I feel we will see that in the next generation)
Boy:Albert Michael Phillip(I really like the name Albert)
As for due date maybe 11 April?

    ReplyDelete
  10. So far slightly more bet it'S a girl and the most favoured dates are, 11th, 20th and 23rd.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm hoping for a Victoria or a James. I think Kate is due early in
April and I agree that the royal wedding was scheduled far enough in advance so that Kate can be wedding ready.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The only reason I think they might not use James as a first name is because it's the first name of Edward and Sophie's son so it could cause confusion. Otherwise I would love that option too! I've got it as a second name. :-)

      Delete
    2. James is also the first name of Kate’s brother and brother-in-law

  12. I'm still feeling the girl vibe so that's my "official" gender guess. My date is April 16 although I almost chose the 12th. Names are hard. I know Ladbrokes is favoring Alice but I just don't like that name so I'm hoping not. If it were up to me, which of course is absurd, I would go with Mary Victoria Carole because I think Granny Middleton should be in there somewhere. It wouldn't be out of the question to use Frances if it's a girl because of the obvious Diana connection and the fact that Michael Middleton's middle name is Francis. The succession is well and truly grounded now so it would be nice for the Middleton's to be recognized with baby #3.

If it's a boy I really hope it's not Arthur. That's my father's name but I still don't care for it. (Sorry, Dad) The name Louis is in William's and George's names as a nod to Charles's favorite uncle Louis Mountbatten on his father's side and Charles and William both have Phillip in their names. I'm guessing they might not feel the need to use Phillip but I could be wrong. They may not use Henry either so it can be available for Harry & Meghan but it would sure be nice if they did. My favorite combination if it's a boy would be Fredrick James William. Let's give dad some credit too!

Do you suppose they have to sit around with lists of names and their origins in the family to make the proper choices? Can you hear Kate saying "There is no way I'm naming my child Alexandrina!" :-) All of the other royal men have four names. I wonder why W&K shortened it by one.

  13. April 7th! That’s my daughter’s birthday ❤️

  14. I am guessing April 24 and a baby boy Cambridge with the name Michael Philip Charles. If a girl arrives, my guess is Alice Adelaide Victoria.

  15. My guess: a girl, April 12 @ 3:17 pm, 21.25 Long, 7lbs. 6 oz.
    Alexandra Catherine
I am not a fan of the name Alice, so I am hoping not!

    1. Exciting news Robin! I was just thinking my April 12th was a bit late of a guess. I felt H&M would be giving Kate some recovery time before their wedding, she looked a bit puffy and low the last week, and maybe someone leaked a “fake news” story of a St. George’s Day due date to throw off the reporters.
I wonder if they may also use Alexander for a boy, I seem to remember some speculation that Kate liked that name for George? Also, being a traditionally Scottish name it may continue to help calm the waters. :-)

      Delete
    2. All good points, Linda! My guess was April 16 so now we just wait and see. Fun!

      Delete
    3. Isn't Alexander George's middle name?

      Delete
    4. Yes Lizzie! So it would probably preclude its use. Someone mentioned Christian, I really like that option, maybe Christian Philip Michael, a nod to the DofE and Grandpa Middleton?
It was also mentioned that they appear to using Hanoverian names, I don’t know if it’s purposeful or if they are just lovely names! However, it got me thinking for a girl Caroline or Amelia, as someone mentioned, maybe great choices.
BTW, I picked Charlotte for George (if he was a girl, hahaha) and Charlotte again for Charlotte....a nod to both the PoW, and Granny Carole. :-)

      Delete
    5. I think Charlotte is also Pippa's middle name and Elizabeth is Carole's (and Elizabeth honors the Queen, of course.) And Diana was honored. Because of those very close family connections (as well as those connections in George's 3 names) I'm less likely to see the previous choices as deliberately "Hanoverian" myself. I honestly like Alice but it doesn't seem too popular here.

      Delete
    6. I really like the name Amelia. That would be pretty and feminine just like Charlotte is. Hmm...Amelia Victoria Carole. I like the sound of that!

      Delete
  17. I’m guessing 16 April as a safe, middle-of-the-month option.
As for the names, I’m guessing Caroline Mary Philippa and Arthur Philip Francis. (I could not suggest Frances for a girl because Princess Frances just sounds no-no)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I chose the Queens birthday - for fun and because I played around with an EDD calculator. I think it might be earlier though.

I like the name Alice, but I don't love it. I George and Charlotte are so "Hanoverian" i hope they will keep it in line with that and not suddenly go all Tudor or Medieval. So Amelia or Adelaide or Caroline. Boy - I dunno, tough one Maybe Frederick or Albert.

    1. I forgot all about the Hanoverian/ Geogorian provenance for George and Charlotte's names. I think you're correct and they will continue in that same vein. So, yup, Alice and Arthur are out. That leaves us with Amelia, Adelaide, Caroline, Sophia and I think Mary and an arguement could be made for Victoria. Less choices for boys- Frederick, Albert, Augustus (highly unlikely). I'll have to go research this and see what other names would qualify.

    2. Oops! Alfred is not Georgian but Alfred is.

  20. It must me the 13th since I really would like to share my birthday with a princess.

  21. I don't think we can guess the date of the new little Cambridge's arrival based on the date of H and M's marriage.
I think May 19th is just about as late as they could make it in accord with a Fiancees's visa.
So I'm guessing another long wait to April 29th which is a Sunday--and you will know that according to the rhyme, the child born on the sabbath is a perfect angel.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think and hope so, that it will be april 10th. Just because it is my own birthday. And maybe they call their child Caroline, if its a girl. For me, this would mean a second match. Sorry for mistakes, that I eventually made, english is not my first language.

  23. I will guess April 14th, which happens to be my 34th wedding anniversary.

  24. I'm guessing April 9th just to be a bit earlier in the month.

My name guesses: Girl: Alice Catherine Frances
    Boy: Albert Michael Phillip

  25. April 28th not based on anything logical, just a guess.

  26. Lol, the majority of names listed on the comments are girl names. Let’s not forget that will and Kate have not announced the gender of the baby so it could very easily be a boy as well. I know the majority hopes it’s a girl but we will have to wait and see.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I’d go for a due date of c. 14-16th April, although given the mooted late arrivals of George and Charlotte actual birth of 20-22 April? Leaving a month recovery window before 19 May?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I read somewhere reliable, that press starts waiting outside Lindo Wing April 10th. If so that might give a strong hint.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't for the life of me pick a first name for the baby if it's a boy. There is already a Prince Albert, a Prince Michael, and a Frederick Windsor. They might have chosen Edward, the middle name of William's maternal grandfather, and as I think it's a family name in Catherine's ancestry, but there is already a Prince Edward. Interestingly, Edward is both the first name, and one of the names of The Queen's sons. (Prince Andrew is Andrew Albert Christian Edward). Andrew Morton wrote that Prince Charles wanted to call William Albert, and Harry Arthur, but Diana did not like those names enough, so I imagine that William might not love those as first names either, but who knows?
    https://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a12119816/prince-william-prince-harry-names/

James is already in use by both Catherine's brother and brother-in-law, not to mention James, Viscount Severn, (who, by the way, looked to me at the Easter service as though he doesn't enjoy the limelight one bit), so it might be a bit confusing if they used that. Likely first-names for a girl are already in use by prominent royals, e.g. Mary, and Caroline. Francis, James, or John might feature as middle names for a boy, as Francis is the middle name of both Catherine's father and her paternal grandfather, and John was the first name of Diana, Princess of Wales' father. I like Alice for a girl and it sits well alongside George and Charlotte. Victoria is a strong possibility and it also sits nicely with those names. I can see Catherine liking Alexandra, but there is already a Princess Alexandra. I can see Louise too, but that is the name of Prince Edward and Sophie's daughter. I can see that they might use Philip as a middle name for a boy, or even as a first name, given Prince Philip's advanced age. If it's a boy, I will be very interested to see what they decide to call him. They might have Charles as a middle name for a boy. I think it is interesting that, so far, William and Catherine have chosen only three names for each child. Four would have given them more scope, but clearly their choices of name reflect the relative simplicity of their lifestyle! It must be quite a task choosing a name for a royal baby! I am now thinking that Albert is the only choice for a boy and that Prince Albert of Monaco is far away enough for that not to be a problem :-) I am picking 20th as the date of birth.
