Meghan Markle Arrives at St. Georges in Givenchy

Saturday, May 19, 2018

I am going to have to do a full post, but for the moment, the wedding is underway! The bride chose Givenchy and I love her veil! She is wearing a little worn bandeau tiara on loan from the Queen.

This sweet moment will certainly be a fan favorite.

  1. That veil is spectacular and I love the tiara!

  2. i'm sure kate will get her own post but isn't it generally frowned up to wear white/ivory to someone else's wedding?

    1. I read it was actually primrose yellow. I wonder if it is the same pattern as the christening dress but in a different fabric.

    2. It’s primrose yellow.

    3. I certainly thought so danielle! Look at all the criticism James Middleton's then-girlfriend got for wearing what to me was clearly pale yellow to Pippa's wedding.

    4. Per Kensington Palace, Kate was wearing yellow.

    6. I saw one news outlet call it "pale yellow" ... (Hmmm)
Meghan looked lovely. Loved the tiara choice. Such the happy occasion!

    7. KP does say it was ""primrose" yellow but outdoors the dress color sure looks close to the color of PC's dress. So it seems like a creamy (as in yellowish-toned) warm white to me.

    8. It looked quite yellow on our TV.

    9. The wedding dress was a huge miss - looked lumpy and cheap and the hair - always, always a mess

    10. Sadly I agree that the dress bodice did not fit nicely and the hair should have been better held in place to match the formality of the day , it was not a beach venue.

    11. The dress also looked white on my TV and even the commentators were a bit shocked to announce that Kate hat gotten out of the car in what seemed to be a cream dress.

I looked up primrose yellow (per the KP statement) & while color can be subject to interpretation, the general consensus is that it is a daffodil-yellow color.....I'm thinking Kate had a last minute outfit change for whatever reason & had to recycle this cream coatdress from Charlotte's christening!

  3. Beautiful outfit, but again, I'm disappointed they invited people like James Corden, Oprah, and Tom Hardy, but left out members of the extended BRF. I really want to like Meghan, but it just does *not* reflect well on her & Harry.

Kate looked wonderful, and it was great to see her children take part!

I think my favorite moment so far was when Mike Tindall was shown putting his hands on Zara's belly. So sweet, especially since this is a rainbow baby for her. Can't wait for them to be safely holding their second child.

Oh, and Eugenie's outfit might've been my favorite "guest" one so far. Very Audrey Hepburn! The back had some great details.

    2. Agree about the guests, Am. I thought Harry and Meghan wanted an "intimate" wedding with close friends and family. But the Clooneys made the cut? Unless I'm missing something, the only connection there is that Amal and Meghan share a hairdresser. The intimate wedding turned into a chance for H & M to network. Of course, it's their wedding and their choice but I'm disappointed.

Also agree with you about Mike and Zara. I thought Zara looked absolutely stunning! And Kate looked wonderful. It was thoughtful of her to repeat an outfit but freshen it up with a new hat (I think?)

But, overall, I'm disappointed in Meghan's look. I thought the top of her gown was ill-fitting, her hair was sloppy and her make-up too natural. (I appreciate that she wasn't caked in make-up. But surely there's a happy medium.) I'm all here for the pomp and circumstance, though!

    3. The extended family that were not invited were The children of Harry’s grandmother’s cousin. I have never even met the children of my grandmothers cousins. Actually I can’t even name my grandparents cousins and certainly did not invite them to my wedding. Good for Harry and Meghan for making their day their own.

      Delete
    4. 100% agree. I mean no harm but there is something not genuine about Meghan. I’m not trying to specifically be mean to her or talk badly of her but something is just off. She has invited celebrities over family, that isn’t typical of someone in the royal family who is meant to be family-oriented and proper. I understand she is an actress, but does she really run in the same circles as Tom Hardy or George Clooney or Oprah? It all just seems fake and fame-hungry to me.

      Delete
    5. I think the difference though Andrea is that Harry has met the royals who were left out. They attend various royal functions like the Trooping and the extended family Christmas lunch and have for years. So they aren't just names on a family tree the way 3rd cousins might be for the rest of us.

      Delete
    6. Andrea, I could be wrong, but I believe some of the extended family left off the guest list in favour of celebrities were people Harry grew up with at Kensington Palace as a child. So of course Harry and Meghan were free to "make the day their own" but perhaps the day shouldn't have been heralded in advance by the palace as an intimate day for close family and friends when it was really a day to invite celebrities they barely know.

      Delete
    7. Andrea, you are a bit mistaken. These are people Harry grew up playing with at Kensington Palace as they were (and still are) neighbors and/or family members they see at least a few times a year at family events. I would wager he sees them more, and knows them better, than people like Elton John, Marcus Mumford, Tom Hardy, etc etc etc.

And, as I've said elsewhere, at the very least more of the Gloucesters should have been invited as the Duke and Duchess are giving up their apartment (adjacent to Kate and Wills' place) for Harry and Meghan. Snubbing their kids and grandkids - who again, they DO know and spend time with - especially given this gesture is quite frankly baffling and seems to be in extremely poor taste.

And yeah, Anonymous, it seems like they were more concerned with how the wedding would look and having the "right" people there than they were with including more of their families. Bit disappointing.

Like I said, I really want to like her, but things like this seem extremely attention-grabbing and superficial and go against the "she's really nice and genuine" narrative. Hopefully it's just a blip.

    8. I read somewhere that Meghan and Amal are friends.

    9. I agree with other posters about concerns over Meghan's sincerity. I have tried over and over again to like her but keep get hitting with new tidbits that really give me pause-from her engagement interview where she claimed to not really know much about the royal family, to her "Strong stance" for LGBTQ rights and her so called unwillingess to stay or be seen at a Dorchester Collection hotel because of it (Harry stayed at a Dorchester hotel last night and it was much publicized, which will no doubt draw increased patronage to Dorchester establishments owned by the Sultan of Brunei. There has been a longstanding boycott of these hotels due to the Sultan's brutal treatment of the LGBTQ community. Surely Meghan could have persuaded Harry to choose another establishment), to her claims of being primarily a humanitarian and then wearing a $75k dress in her engagement photos (and before people chirp at me about this-I understand she bought it herself, but I'm certain there were other dresses available for say $30k that would have been just as beautiful but not look so extravagant in the faces of those impoverished, desperate people she claims to care about so much). Then inviting the Clooneys, Oprah, Tom Hardy, etc. (who I doubt she has really spent any significant time with) over others? Additionally, while I understand the Markle side clearly has issues and they are estranged and wouldn't be invited, what about her Mother's side? Not a single other relative was worthy of an invite? She had ONE family member in attendance. It just doesn't add up to me and her persona comes off as highly curated and crafted and ultimately disingenuous.

I certainly hope I am proven wrong. I wish them all the best and hope they have many happy years together.

    10. I agree with some of the celeb over family comments but I also think there are some U.K. celeb connections Americans may not immediately think of. Elton John was friends with Diana & sang at her funeral, and Idris Elba & Tom Hardy have been involved with the Princes Trust (I believe the Princes Trust was actually instrumental in providing Idris Elba with a scholarship to help him become an actor).

      Delete
    11. The celebrities who were invited all work with Harry and his charity work. This is not a case of Meghan reaching up, Harry is the connection to George Clooney and Oprah. They all have charities that work in Africa together.

    12. I'm a bit concerned about the celebrity factor. I've already heard the term Hollywood royality. And this came from BBC (the British channel).

Royality means something different to me. Royality goes way back in many countries. Royality have high set of moral standards, serve their people, and awesome traditions.

The morals of Hollywood for the most part are awful. I only respect a select few.

Yes, I also have questions about certain ones invited. How long has been these friend relationships such as Oprah and George Clooney and wife. They are also seated in the navel of the church. The wearing of hats requirement makes a difference thankfully towards a proper dress code. For the most part everyone dressed properly as a form of respect for the Queen and her chapel.

The wedding was very moving. Wow.

    13. I have tried and really tried to like Meghan, I love him and want him to have what William and Kate have ... but she comes across as fake and insincere and I have huge misgivings about her. I hope I am wrong but I do not think I am. I know of no one who has a good word to say about her, so it is not just me!

      Delete
    14. In this case George Clooney was that tag along with his wife who is the distinguished British barrister. I also have to smile a little bit about Katharine’s comment that royals have high morals standards - I mean Henry VIII is buried in that chapel... ;)

      Delete
    15. Anon, 6 16, I don't blame you for smiling. My choice of words not the best. Oh yes, there are many royal scandals. Who can forget Henry the 8th among others. :). To put it more bluntly. The royals don't dress trashy, talk trashy, or show parts of their body I'd prefer not to see, etc.

And on the other hand, it's good to know people that have more of a potential to donate to their charities. So their are positives.

I also wonder if Oprah was a last minute invite since she at the last moment had to have something created (by Stella McCartney). one is not going to sit a billionaire in the quire of the chapel.

      Thank you for your comment.

  4. I wish Kate hadn't recycled. She looks amazing but a royal wedding deserves a glam new outfit. All eyes would be on the bride anyway. It was a lovely wedding. Everything looked stunning against the green backdrop and William looked absolutely delighted. George and Charlotte were cute as always

  5. I love that Harry made sure the Spencer family was invited and involved in the wedding and that Fergie was there. The commentary that this was "an intimate family wedding" was a bit over the top. Only if your typical intimate family wedding includes George Clooney, Elton John, and Oprah. I know they were all in attendance at my wedding - such hangers on - can't get rid of them!

The evangelical preacher from Chicago was a bit much for the British reserve. I think the BRF might cringe when they see the footage of themselves exchanging glances during the whole thing. Stand By Me was an odd choice. I noticed they didn't focus on HM at all. The boys choir was exquisite,

Fashion: Meghan looked lovely, of course, and the veil was stunning. I'm thrilled with her choice of tiara - gorgeous! I thought her dress was classic but a little boring.

Kate looked beautiful in the yellow and I loved the hat! Charlotte was, of course, a scene stealer. What an adorable little girl!

    2. I agree with almost everything you’ve said, Robin! I found the Chicago preacher quite cringeworthy & I had to fast forward. he went on & on so much that some of the BRF were giggling. I thought Kate looked stunning - OMG - 26 days after giving birth. Is her dress actually a repeat or just similar to the christening gown. This dress looks primrose yellow, whereas the previous gown was cream.
Fashion: I actually loved Meaghan’s very simple Givenchy dress. Also like ed the tiara & veil although it was perhaps too long. I was impressed that she chose an elegant, subtle look rather going OTT. Her mother looked very elegant tho I thought the style of hat wrong for her face.

    3. That was the presiding bishop and primate of the episcopal church not an evangelical preacher from Chicago.

      Delete
    4. Yes— he’s the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, the equivalent of the Archbishop of Canterbury. His preaching style is distinct and well-known. Harry and Meghan would certainly have been familiar with it before asking him. If members of the BRF are really unable to control their reactions to him, that speaks very poorly of their ability to interact appropriately with foreign dignitaries.

    5. Oh my gosh, I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who cringed during Reverend Curry's talk! It was awful but at the same time I felt sorry for him because NONE of the royal family even tried to hide their disdain and were openly laughing/ridiculing him. Even Kate! Badly done! On all sides..

    7. I too Robin agree with most everything you said.

Bishop Curry in some areas was yes a bit uncomfortable. It seemed to be more like a sermon for church rather than for a wedding. The main theme was very good, the power of love.

I do think though no matter what you might be thinking, it would have been better to remain expressionless during the Bishop's presentation.

I do like the song Stand By Me but did not fit with all the other music selections which were totally appropriate for the Queen's chapel. The gospel singers were good just a poor music selection.

    2. Apparently, in the UK, it is acceptable to wear white or cream even if you're not the bride. I think Kate deliberately chose an outfit (bespoke McQueen isn't too shabby!) which would not take away any attention from the bride which is kind and considerate.

  8. The ceremony was lovely and joyous. Harry walking to the chapel so nonchalantly was a true highlight for me.

I personally didn't love Meghan's dress as much as Kate's as I found it a little too simple for my personal taste but it's certainly a classic timeless piece that will still be admired and considered beautiful in 50 years time.

I thought it was a little tasteless that Kate would wear this light cream colour to someone else's wedding. Considering she isn't just some guest but in the limelight with the children. If it was someone else, people would be quick to point out the faux-pas. Apart from that Kate looked glowing and back to her usual self so quickly after the birth!

    1. Kate was in yellow.

I thought the idea of Meghan’s dress was lovely and classic, and the neckline flattered her. But it didn’t seem to fit well (she actually looked heavy in the hips and waist - when we all know from other outfits that she is quite slender). It also seemed heavy at the bottom and like it was hard to navigate on the steps. I was a bit worried for her at her arrival when she had to navigate those steps alone! Beautiful choice of veil and tiara.

    2. It may have been pale yellow but it showed up white/beige on camera. She usually always makes sure her clothes photograph well so I don't understand why this happened.

The steps did seem a little tricky. I thought the style of Meghan's dress was lovely and timeless but I personally prefer something with lace or some sort of embellishment. I think she chose a modest dress so as not to appear too extravagant.

I absolutely adored watching Harry's reaction as Charles and Meghan approached the altar. I wonder why he turned around and William didn't during his own wedding? I have to say, I wasn't thrilled with the choice of Charles to walk with Meghan, but in the moment it was lovely. Did anyone else catch her mouthing "hi" to Harry as she walked up?

The veil is just outstanding, and the drama of it was perfect for that walk up the steps. For me, a show stopping moment of emotion was the Mulroney boys escorting Meghan in the car and helping her with the veil. Honestly, it brought tears to my eyes more than any other moment. WHY!?

  14. What a day! Definitely a few surprises (Megan's dress, the sermon!)

One thing is certain: Harry is head over heels in love with her. I love that he is the more emotional one, that he is taking her lead. He turned around at the alter because he doesn't care about tradition, he wanted to see his bride. He's wearing a wedding ring. He's tearing up. Picking flowers for her from the garden. She is cool and confident and maybe that's what Harry needs. I just hope she is responsible with his heart.

Also, I read that Kate sort of gave Meghan a little gift in what she wore. A twice repeated, simple dress. Essentially she's saying "there's nothing to see here look at the beautiful bride."

Amal was striking but the color and cut gave a musical comedy vibe. Did you notice the guest,I think he is one of the Suits actors, who kept chewing gum the whole ceremony? Kate was perfection as usual. Ravishing hat. The little girls outfit was a total miss. Not flattering at all and badly cut. Strange because Meghan's dress was perfection. Givenchy is not for children apparently. The sermon of the bishop was over the top, theatrical to the point of ridicule. And not very well written either. Music and flowers wonderful. Strange mix of guests, I wonder how they chose them. Camila looked good. Charles a perfect gentleman. The Queen and prince Philip beyong impressive. And I have just seen Meghan's second dress. Kate looked wonderful, I have to assume the dress is the one she wore previously. Loved her hat. Charlotte and George looked so cute.

  23. To everyone complaining about the celebrities in attendance ... Meghan herself IS a celebrity! Celebrities are real people too, and the ones invited obviously share some sort of meaningful connection with the couple, otherwise they wouldn't be there.

And as for Harry not inviting more family members, he clearly doesn't feel as close to them as some might like to think, regardless of images of them together as children.

I will never understand why people other than the bride and groom feel they should have any say in or opinion of who is invited to a wedding! I personally invited more friends than family to my own wedding. My husband had more family than friends. It totally depends on the relationships.

I personally enjoyed seeing all the guests. And the fact that many of them were recognizable made it all the more fun for me!

    1. I do not look at it as complaining but rather discussing our points of view.

I respect your point of view.

Maybe it's because certain Hollywood people leave very bad taste in mouth, such as the Kardashians as only one example.

Definitely celebrities are people, too. Yes one might consider Meghan a celebrity in the small sense of the word. Personally I never heard of her and didn't watch Suits nor who was starring in it. Meghan lived in Toronto and held herself to a decorum as evidenced for example by her blog Tig and her instagram.

George Clooney lived a lot overseas. I do respect him. Obviously he is an intelligent man as Amal is super smart.

The potential too is there for donations to their charities as to who runs in your circle of life which is of a huge benefit.

      Thank you for your post.

I cannot get over how stunning that tiara was compared to the "Wee Curly" that Kate Cambridge wore. I disliked it at the time and having seen this one I am sort of flummoxed. Did CC choose that one in particular or was their no choice involved? Did the Queen dust off a few older ones for this wedding? anyway - it was stunning.

  25. Loved everything. EVERYTHING. Such joy, elegance, pomp yet homey wedding (and the photographs are to die for! I mean, starting with the engagement pics!). Handsome groom, gorgeous bride (my ONLY critique, as with D of C on her day: pale lips were way too pale! A rosier or even redder lip shade would have been wonderful (and they make kiss-proof ones these days, you know!;). In terms of the D of C: for me at least, the ordinariness of her presence, chit chatting with and among all other members of The Firm, really drove the point that she just is such a fundamental, integrated part of that establishment. I mean, duh, right? But, again, it was precisely the ordinariness of her presence as one more VIP in the pews, chatting w Camilla and the others and not as THE girlfriend, THE fiancee, THE bride, the fashion maven, the duchess, the wife of the heir, mom to the heir, etc.....that drove that point home today for me. The D of C looked lovely and at the same time, made sure to wear an outfit that said nothing-to-see-here-look-at-the-bride. Sylvia

  27. Cream is actually fine to wear to a wedding in the UK. I think people forget that it really tends to only be America that cringes at that- there were many people today in white day dresses. KP says that Catherine’s dress was yellow and it certainly appeared so when she was standing next to Charlotte.

  28. The groom looked liked he just rolled out of bed! His hair was crazy and his beard way too thick. Poor thing, that red hair is so unattractive. I think he looked scared through the ceremony. Maybe he should have thought about all the changes that r going to take place when Megan takes over his life!

    1. Wow - harsh! I don't think we should criticize folks on their natural appearance (hair color). You would probably look a little nervous, too, if you knew millions of people around the world were watching you!

  29. Her dress was such a letdown! Sooo boring! I get simple but if you are going to spend literally hundreds of thousands of dollars on a designer dress, you'd think you'd get a little more bang for your buck!;) As my sister said, "that's it?! I could go buy that at David's bridal for a 100 bucks!". Haha yep, probably:/

    1. Davis a Bridal doesn’t tailor like that! The drsss might not be embellished but the structure of that dress is pure crastmanship

  30. Here's a question for you guys:

Kate and William are at the wedding, Nanny Maria is at the wedding (wrangling the page boys and flower girls), all the Middletons are at the wedding, as well as most of the BRF, *and* the nanny they used after George was born (Jessie Webb)...

So who's watching little newborn Louis?! Any guesses?...

    1. Maybe the same person/people watching Mia Tindall and the Phillips girls?

    2. Thank you anonymous, it might be another nanny belonging to those who attended with children.

Or they specifically hired someone just for taking care of Louis while they were at the events from the town of Windsor area.

  31. Maybe Meghan lost weight leading up to the wedding as the dress looked to big saggy & baggy. Stella McCartney dress looked better. Windsor castle was beautiful &flowers gorgeous. Choir & cello were sublime. Would have been nice for Doria to have a friend to sit with. Nod to Diana with the flowers & aquamarine ring worn with the Stella dress. Kate looked lovely and didn’t upstage Meghan at all. Beautiful weather, carriage ride was good. Don’t get it how she can wear flattering fitted clothes then most important day of her life her wedding dress is saggy / baggy??? Stella also made Oprah’s dress. George & Charlotte very cute, Camilla looked uncomfortable during the Love speech which Michael Curry said love 68!times!!!! Lovely gesture from Charles to walk with Meghan. There is something about her that also doesn’t click with me??? All the best and hope it works out and they together & united they can create peace, love & hope with their charities, invictus and everyone they meet. Diana would be so proud of her sons. Loved Beatrice’s ensemble, dress & hat. Eugenia was a bit too simple for me. Well done Prince Phillip for attended, amazing!!!! Zara looked beautiful and probably very uncomfortable with her big tummy. Pippa looked beautiful too & Carol :)

    1. Agreed. The dress just didn't sit quite right, definitely looked baggy in some areas. A beautiful, simple, modern dress...but I agree, perhaps she dropped a bit of weight over the recent stress with her family/final wedding prep? It didn't fit quite right.

  32. What a beautiful day. Simply gorgeous pared-down dress to offset the diaphanous vail and train - and the stunning bandeau tiara. I looked at some close up images of it online, and it had almost an art deco feel. However, I think it was made before this period.
Then, there were the children - so cute, so sweet and so well-behaved. Amazing; that is one long aisle to stay herded together like that.
It was hysterical watching all the faces of the congregation while the American preacher was exploding at the pulpit. I had a giggle when they cut to Camilla (or rather a shot of her flamingo), obviously whispering something to Kate, and Kate barely able to suppress a giggle. There is always someone at a wedding who speaks for too long...
The Chello player was wonderful; but my favourite feature was the gorgeous flowers. I can only imagine what they would have looked like, or smelt like, if you were there in person.
As for the guest list; I'm sure the main players came to some sort of a landing with that. And really; do we actually know who Meghan and Harry spend their personal time with? We see them fleetingly at public engagements, and are not privy to how they spend their down-time, apart from the odd pap shot.
    They all looked very happy.

  33. What a beautiful and very emotional day. The ceremony was perfect from beginning to end. Meghan and Harry are perfect together, and I wish them a lifetime of love, joy and peace, far away from all the naysayers. They are truly beautiful, inside and out. I'm

  34. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Meghan's evening dress. Mine? DYNAMITE. I believe *this* is the type of dress she'd have worn for the ceremony if she wasn't bound by the modesty rules of covered shoulders. For me, the second dress was my favorite of Meghan's and my favorite of Kate's was her ceremony gown.
